We didn't meet Michelle, but felt very well her touch on everything. She took care about the smallest details, and in her absence she made her best to give us the feeling that she is there. The accommodation was spacious, clean, cosy and very quiet. We enjoyed our stay in The Gables and recommend it to travellers who are visiting Tongariro National Park and the area.

And it shows - the room has everything you need, and the host is ready to listen for any improvements. The restaurant and activities recommendations were great and we had a nice chat with the host. I'd recommend this place to anyone and stay here again.

Part of a larger house, Frankie & Hugh's is a renovated, self-contained apartment situated in Ohakune, just a 20-minute drive from the Turoa ski field on Mount Ruapehu. A beautiful mountain stream runs through the B&B gardens, and you can often hear the calls of native birds The location!! Darling cottage in a beautiful garden. Host is so nice.

Ranfurly Cottage is located in the historic township of Raetihi. Free WiFi access is available. Each room here will provide you with a patio and a private bathroom with free toiletries. You can enjoy garden view from the room. So many thoughtful touches, a fantastic breakfast, cosy cottage with the fire on when we arrived. Under floor heating in the bathrooms. And amazing hosts! Truly loved our stay.

My partner and I stayed at the River Lodge during our Christmas/ summer holiday and it was EXCEPTIONAL. Cleanest room we have ever stayed in. The hosts are fantastic, great vibes all round! The included breakfast was delicious and we had all the amenities we needed. Well worth the price and experience away from a chain hotel. The setting is so green, relaxing and warm. We slept so well as it was so quiet. Highly recommend you stay here if you are planning to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing - Dani can organise a direct shuttle to/from the track for you.

National Park
Built in 1912 and offering budget, backpacker-style accommodation in a charming historic building, National Park Alpine Lodge features free WiFi in communal areas and both Netflix and satellite channels in the shared lounge area. It is located in National Park Village, 25 km from Mount Ruapehu. Free private parking is available on site. I felt like home. Joyce is super nice! The Lodge has everything you need: comfortable bed, big kitchen, good wifi, a nice and comfy common area, hot water, groceries. The place is quiet and very well located for tongariro national park (you take shuttle buses and Joyce can take you to Whakapapa).

This was excellent for the cost. It is a 'backpacker' type accomodation but was clean, cosy, everythinng worked well, staff were very helpful. If you are on a budget you will be very pleased, if you just like to save you will be very happy here. If you want luxury look elsewhere. But clean comfortable quiet handy, this is great. We are mid 60's and could easily pay more but like to save and we liked it and would stay here again.

We had a room for 3 with our own bathroom. The beds were super comfortable. It was also surprisingly quiet there. Great location. Enough space in the fridges for everyone. Great place.
great hostel, great affordable options for a private room, 20 mins from the Tongariro Crossing which is why I was staying. It had great facilities, plenty of bathrooms, a clean hot shower and the kitchen was well stocked and not too busy which I really appreciate in a hostel.
The double bedroom on the ground floor was extremely quiet and very private.
Room was clean, location feels private and mostly quiet, short drive to National Park, shower was nice. Appreciate the Dryer Room (instead of just a dryer), handy to dry all of our snow gears at once.
Fantastic location and host. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the house was beautiful and warm and the views of the mountain fantastic. Looking at the mountain from the spa was a highlight. Daniel was a great host and does an excellent breakfast. We loved this place!

Although attached to the main house, Gables B&B is incredibly private. It's also quiet and peaceful and a well-located base from which to explore the Ruapehu region. The host is very generous with breakfast provisions and snacks, including fresh fruit and free range eggs each day. The kitchen is small but well equipped, the bed comfortable - and the bathroom is serviced daily.
