Vientiane is not the best city for sightseeing as a regular tourist even though there are lots of temples or buildings. But the best part about it is that locals are super friendly, not annoying as in other parts of Southeast Asia, food is delicious and there are no danger of eating it cause everything looks clean. Try local food places around China street and if you already bored of local food just find The Italian job restaurant outside of the city. Wonderful Italian cuisine
We went to Vientiane as part of our tour of South East Asia. There is not much to see or do in the city. We spent most of our time at cafes and spas as we were able to cover the attractions within a very short period of time.
Vientiane has a lovely quiet atmosphere and is cooling change from Bangkok (we were on a visa run). However it is more expensive than Bangkok and we didn't particularly enjoy the food except at our hotel restaurant (and we are pretty adventurous eaters). Most of it was an odd mix of Loas and Western (due to French influence) but not necessarily with great results, e.g. one night we ordered at a (slightly pricier) restaurant that boasted of making traditional Loas food. We ordered a bbq'd skewer which basically came out drowned in tomato sauce. I get the impression that if you can get out of Vientiane you'll find cheaper and better experiences, we just didn't have the time on this trip. Probably a lovely place if you have the budget for it.
Vientiane is a city for walk. It has many temples and some historical architectures. The Budda Park is very impressive with many different sculptures of budda. The momument is grand and beautiful. The food is various from Southeast Ascia. I like it a lot.
Take the stairs to go to the top but you will be pleasantly distracted by the goods on sale at the different levels. No high pressure selling! Great views of the President's Palace and Golden Temple from the top as well as the rest of Vientiane
Vientiane is an easy going city. Even with a large concentration of visitors there is no hassle from vendors. There's good local food. It's easy to move around by foot bicycle or scooter.
Not the prettiest or most interesting city on the planet. Very little to do besides temple sight seeing. Expensive if compared to other similar SE Asia destinations. Two days in Vientiane are plenty.
Vientiane is such a peaceful place, there’s some gentrification going in some parts and you can also see some of the French influence. Traffic is marginal so riding a bicycle around is easy, which some hotels offer. If you planning on doing visas for Thailand the process is rather easy. I would suggest checking out the new best western and the surrounding restaurants, kind of reminded me of a small part of Cuba. It’s tranquil place, things move slowly, it’s a nice effect if you need to relax and forget about your troubles! Go have a nice sundowner and a nice meal, and relax
What I liked most about Vientiane is that it’s a laid back city with some modernization. It’s not too big of a city yet where you can still enjoy it as a quick getaway. I like the Mekong river walk area and the locals are really friendly
Vientiane has lost its charm. The tuktuk drivers charge New York rates. The place has become overbuilt and uninteresting. Vientiane used to have a unique French/Lao fusion cuisine. Nowadays, it's Padthai and noodles for the hoardes of Chinese tourists. Better to get off the beaten path. Go to LP, Pakse, Savanhaket!
Overall, it was a great one night stay. Vientiane is not a big city, so it’s convenient to get to and from either the airport or the train station. Pick up was convenient and property were very responsive in confirming through the private message function of Booking. Hotel room was very clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel location is good, near to the night market and there are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops right outside. Hotel was quiet at night and the breakfast buffet was decent.
Vientiane
I reached Vientiane on the 24th of December, in the morning. Of course, who wants to celebrate christmas alone? The staff at the hostel had arranged for a xmass dinner, for free, for everyone and this was one of the warmest things that had happened to me while traveling. The gathering, the team making sure you’re happy and enjoying, amazing! Not to mention the location of the hostel, and the comfy beds. They also offer a decent free breakfast. ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED!
We arrived later than planned and the hotel was waiting or us and checked us in quickly. We were tired and hungry and they helped us get dinner quickly in the beautiful lobby wine bar/restaurant. The room was comfortable and offered in-room coffee and tea. The breakfast was ample and delicious. I wish we had more time in Vientiane - we were only there overnight and had a short visit in the morning before flying out. But I hope to return.
The hotel provided a transfer from the airport to the hotel. Prior to our arrival Zack purchased fast train tickets for us from Vientiane to Luang Prabang. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the hotel and they provided us with a breakfast box when we had an early departure for the train. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The French restaurant across the road from the hotel is amazing!!!
As the rooms are grouped around an inner courtyard (with pool), it is relatively quiet, despite the busy streets nearby. The bed was comfortable. The location is good (the river with many lively restaurants is not far away), and many interesting sites are walking distance away. Hotel located in the heart of Vientiane, easy walk around city. Staff are friendly and helpful. They arranged an pick up service for me. Introduce some of good place to go. Breakfast was great, their are many choice. We love coffee machine, there are americano coffee in the morning. Room clean and comfortable. Lovely view to night market and mekong river.
The hotel is at walking distance to everything but in a very quiet and airy street. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Bathroom has a bath and a shower. Breakfast is very fresh. The staff could not be nicer and is very helpful. This is definitely an hotel with great value for money. I will definitely stay there again when I come back to Vientiane !
Beautiful elegant hotel, huge rooms that are very well maintained. Located within a short walking distance to Vientiane’s business district, restaurants, bars and clubs. Helpful team members, all speaking excellent English. The rooftop restaurant with a 360° view of town and the river serving yummy breakfasts and a chill place for evening cocktail.
Very kind staffs, nice room, Patuxay view, roof top gym and tables, huge and comfortable bed, deep and clean swimming pool, various breakfast, relatively far from tourist street and Mekong river markets so hotel is very quite, staffs let us take shower even after check out. Willing to visit Urbanite Hotel again when i go to Vientiane next time.
Beautiful hotel and facilities. Just gorgeous inside and very very comfortable. Great reception service and amazing morning breakfast . Lovely 4th floor bar with a professional and great bartender, Melody. Definitely recommend staying here for a wonderful and nice experience in Vientiane. Location is central and easy access to everywhere.
Vientiane
Nice Apartment. Gave us a good exchange rate when paying in Baht. Great location- quiet but minutes from the main drag, restaurants and the night food market.Had mosquito coils outside the rooms and plug in repellent in the rooms. Allowed us to leave our bags for the day ahead of getting a night bus. Probably the best thing in Vientiane! 😆.
Lovely hostel with private rooms which we stayed in. The decor is lovely and super comfy beds! Location is really good too. They were helpful in pointing us in the direction for renting scooters & doing laundry. We extended an extra night here too and they were quick to help with this. Would recommend to anyone visiting Vientiane!
During my second stay at the Vientiane Boutique Hotel, I once again received exceptional service from the staff, particularly the daytime front desk attendant. Their professionalism, accommodation, and attentiveness were outstanding. The room and bed comfort were also excellent, especially given the affordable price point.
The location is great, near to central Vientiane with all the shops & restaurants close by and within easy reach of the night market. The hotel is very nicely furnished & feels very grand. Also, breakfast was very nice - a mixture of Asian & western food available. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
I liked just about everything. The location was great, breakfast was quick and filling, the staff were wonderful. DaVika Hotel is a great place to stay if you are in Vientiane for an evening, or you need a long-term place to stay that is in good condition, has great staff, and ensures your stay was comfortable and safe.
Vientiane
- Great location for tourists, anything you might need in a walkable distance - Friendly staff - Everything in the room (sockets, water heater, etc) was working - Worth the price, given the fact that decent (more or less) hotels in Vientiane aren't cheap at all. Good enough to stay a few days.
Hotel Staff "Danny" & "Timothee" were both friendly, helpful & lovely during my stay, good WiFi, close to Vientiane Night Market, BIG C convenient stores closeby, lots of restaurants/bars within short walking distance, very centralised to Vientiane City Centre.
EVERYTHING😍 I enjoyed so much the swimming pool, the room was very nice, the bed was super comfortable and the best of all was the lovely staff and Duy, the owner of the hotel. They took well care of me 🫶🏼 I will absolutely come back to this hotel next time I come to Vientiane! Thank you!
5 star rating for a budget hotel. Comfortable, clean. Our room had tv, cable, WiFi, big refrigerator, hot plate, microwave, a few dishes, pots, etc. Of course a shower and toilet. Not much English spoken but not a problem We are staying again when we go back to Vientiane next week.
It is a new, clean hotel, close to the night market, the reception staff is very good, especially in helping me with the car to go sightseeing, the breakfast is very good. If you come to Vientiane, I recommend this Hotel.
