Jua House provides accommodations in Lamu. The bed and breakfast features city views, a sun terrace, and free Wifi is available throughout the property. Shela is amazing all around, but I know that starting my journey at the Jua House was a major contributor to make this one of the most special travel experiences in my life. Jua is more than a hotel, it’s a point for travelers to meet and make friends. I met wonderful people here who became my Jua family and will be with me for life. the rooms are beautifully decorated, spotless clean, common spaces are awe inspiring, the breakfast is delicious, and above all, the staff is beyond kind. Eddy baked delicious fresh bread every day, Chai always welcomed me with a warm smile, and Amani became a brother that I can’t wait to see again. Jua is a paradise within a paradise.
Lamu
This historical Arabian-style building is located in the UNESCO-listed town of Lamu. It is less than 984 feet from the seafront and 1.9 mi from the white sandy beach. What a heavenly place. You will be staying in a house built in early 19th century by the governor appointed by the Sultan of Zanzibar alongside the fort of Lamu that's 5 meters away from the guesthouse (literally in the second most valuable building of the Lamu Town UNESCO site). The guesthouse has been renovated and meticulously filled with local hand-made furniture and decorations. You really can't take enough pictures of the place. It's like from 1001 nights. Just by staying there you are already experiencing Lamu to the fullest. The staff is friendly and smiling, including the Swedish host who may make you feel like you are her actual guest, not a client. The breakfast consists in half of products grown in an eco-farm 3 km away, owned by the same person, and in half of products sourced locally from other farmers. The host can organise a trip to the farm for you free of charge (she'll only ask you to tip the staff member who'll guide you). Out of all the places I have stayed in throughout my life, this one most deserves the title "exceptional".

The location is very central in Lamu Old Town. Close to the port so easy to get to when arriving from Manda airport and anywhere else you might be traveling in from. The property is open and spacious, very clean and Zion was very helpful in making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The property is well equipped and each of the 3 rooms a good size. The pool was a nice option to cool off in. Le Dolce Toro is a great nearby coffee shop with outdoor space and Peponi Hotel was a lovely spot for lunch/dinner.

Lamu
Beautiful hotel with the best breakfast in Lamu. Their fresh baked bread is famous. The staff were so wonderful and went above and beyond to look after guests and the rooms and shared spaces are beautifully styled and really comfortable. I spent a lot of time on the rooftop enjoying the view. I had 3 fans in my room which was great as I didn't get any of the cool breeze that came through the upper floors at night (I was on the lowest guest floor and facing another building).
Lamu
Gorgeous house with amazing swahili flair, lovely hosts. Seems like they contribute to the Lamu community in a big way, they are well known and loved with everyone I spoke to. Hotel staff will help you organize any outing you‘d like, I can recommend Dhow trips, but they also help with other activities (plus reasonable pricing recommendations). Eco friendly facilities and the breakfast is amazing with ingredients sourced almost exclusively from their own Lamu farm.
Lamu
The staff was really friendly and organised a boat taxi from airport in advance. Despite of a technical overbooking they found a good solution for all travellers. Instead of the booked room we got an Apartment next door. The Location ist perfect to walk around Lamu Town and visit the fort and Museum and the small shops in the second row roads. The breakfast was good. You could choose between Continental or Suaheli breakfast. We had both.
Lamu
Hotel is located close to the Lamu Town center, so it's convenient to walk into town. It's a small one with 4 or 5 rooms, and the local guy managing the hotel is just great and try to be helpful in any possible way. The house is a typical swahili, so lots of stairs but also nice rooftop terrace. The breakfast was good for Kenya standard, with options for western taste - lor of fruit, toast bread and and coffee.
Lamu
Our stay on Manda’s side at Mangrove House was truly wonderful. The location is unmatched, the peace and quiet are absolute. The staff is wonderful and so is the owner, super attentive and ready to help and share. The house is right in front of Shela and Peponi hotel, just a short boat trip away. Would absolutely go back, and recommend it to everyone going to Lamu!
Great staff, super friendly and helpful. Kept the place clean. Grateful for the pool with Lamu hot days. Few of us ate lunch here one day & it was very tasty. Carol is brill, super responsive on the phone too. Got chatting to other guests at the pool and at breakfast, some from Kenya some from abroad.
Shela
Joseph and Mpanzi were very lovely and took good care of me. I enjoyed chatting with them and really felt like I had made new friends by the time I left. The house is large and clean and is well located in Shela. A very comfortable base to explore Lamu and its delights.
Lamu
Conveniently located, but need a guide to find the house for the first time. Beautiful architecture with plenty of room to stretch out. Easy access to Lamu old town and Lamu House Hotel restaurant. Not a lot of other good restaurant choices nearby.
Lamu
This hostel is located in a gorgeous old Swahili style house. The manager is the BEST. So helpful he even had me picked up at the airport. It is located in the center of Lamu town really close to everything. Rooms are quite big. WiFi worked very well.
Shela
I enjoyed the breakfast a lot, the location was great, there are many boats docked right next to the hotel waiting to take you to any other part of Lamu and the staff was always available to help organize other outings.
Breakfast was great, with fresh fruits. The rooftop restaurant has a really great view of Lamu and the ocean. The rooms have a balcony area that is great to sit and relax. Especially loved the Lamu architecture.
