Il Pellicano 5 stars

Hotel in Porto Ercole

Set on a cliff top in Porto Ercole, on the Monte Argentario Peninsula, the luxurious Il Pellicano offers a free private rocky beach, a swimming pool and a Michelin-starred restaurant. Loved every single detail about the property. The reason I gave 4/5 for location is because the hotel is located in a very remote and secluded area, which is the whole idea about relaxation. If you want to have any activity outside the hotel there is no taxi, Uber, bus, shuttle, public transportation,…. You MUST have a car or you need to pay a very high fee to have a private transfer by the hotel.

Hotel da Renato 2 stars

Hotel in Albinia

The family-run Hotel da Renato is a 2-minute drive from Albinia town centre and next to Aurelia National Road. It offers soundproofed rooms with air conditioning and a traditional restaurant. We stayed in this particular area for the purpose of birdwatching. We knew the hotel was not going to be the top of the range and was on the outskirts of Albinia but having a restaurant in site was very appealing to us. We were very surprised though. Everything about the hotel was excellent. Plenty of hot water, comfortable beds, friendly staff and a wonderful restaurant where we ate lunch and dinner on both days we were there. AND…..we saw over a thousand flamingos in two different areas plus dozens of other birds we had not seen before.

FAQs about hotels in Argentario

Tuscany's Lush Anchored Island

Linked to the mainland through 2 strips of land built thanks to the skills of sea currents and the Albegna River, Monte Argentario is an island-peninsula in southern Tuscany. Its rugged landscape is covered with lush vegetation and blessed with beautiful beaches, lagoons, and picturesque towns.

During Roman times, it was given to a family that had lent money to the state, which is probably the origin of its name: the Latin word ‘Arganterii’ means ‘money lender’. Spain acquired it in the late 16th century, handing it over to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany after Napoleon’s defeat.

The main town is Porto Santo Stefano, a charming mix between a fishing village and a modern resort. It spans between the sea and the steep slopes, creating a typical Italian postcard. Ferries leave every day for the Tuscan Archipelago from its pier, while some of the best Monte Argentario luxury hotels are located here.

The smaller Porto Ercole still keeps the charms of medieval times, with walls and fortresses, while Orbetello is a picturesque town located in the central strip of land and surrounded by lagoons.
