Lovely village right in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. Stunning mountain scenery with easy access to hiking trails and other outdoor activities such as rock climbing and mountain biking. Short distance from other centers like Gstaad, Interlaken, Thun/Spiez or Grindelwald.
Wengen is a good centre for walking in the Bernese Oberland, with a cable car giving easy access to the footpaths beneath the Eiger and Jungfrau. The almost complete absence of cars makes it particularly enjoyable. A Jungfrau pass, though expensive, makes getting around much easier and pays for itself if using a number of trains and cable cars (though extra has to be paid for the Jungfraujoch and some other routes). The town is charming, with wonderful views.
Interlarken itself has everything you need and is the best and only place to see the Bernese Oberland. I do have reservations about some of the restaurants that do not advertise their menus in any other language other than their own! Not English, German French or Italian. The mountains the scenery and walks are fantastic.
Fifth time in Wengen Small, relaxed and ideal as a hub to visit many other beautiful places surrounding the Bernese Oberland. Now to plan my 6th visit....
I stayed in Unterseen and was very glad to have chosen it. There is a village feel although you are only metres away from the Main Street of Interlaken. I bought a Bernese Oberland pass for 6 days and was able to hop on and off trains, boats busses and mountain railways. Both lakes are beautiful. There is a lovely walk along the river Aare between the two stations which passes the train up the Harder Kulm. From the top you can look down on the para gliders hovering over the town. Interlaken is simply a good base for so many reasons. Spiez castle is worth visiting. Thun not so much. The town is good though.
Great location for visiting all parts of Switzerland especially Bernese Oberland. Great variety of options for trips. Although touristy that has always been its purpose. Shops have become less interesting over the years. Highly recommended overall.
Wilderswil is convenient base for all the Bernese Oberland . We bought the Regional Pass and used it to the max. There are things to do more than you'll have time for. Plan wisely and you want definitely to go back. This was our 7th time in the area. P.S.Afternoon tea at Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel was nice.Book ahead!
Interlaken is a beautiful place in the Bernese Oberland.A good central location to visit smaller villages higher in the mountains, either by train, cable car, gondola.
A picturesque village in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. It's well served by various types of public transport. The Jungfrau pass covers much of the area and is well worth getting; much cheaper than buying tickets separately.
A fantastic base, particularly if self catering which keeps the cost of eating out down. Can be a little noisy but overall would recommend staying in Interlaken if wanting to explore the Bernese Oberland area.
Mürren
The owner, Janet, was willing to do whatever she could to make your stay with her amazing! The location is excellent, a very short walk from the train station. A great location to walk around Murren or travel to other parts of the Bernese Oberland. Also we ate at the hotel restaurant two nights while there, and the food is just delicious! We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed on our last night.
A comfortable hotel, ideal for visiting that part of the Bernese Oberland, with a good car park. Only a five minute walk to the railway station and bus stop and, with the free local transport ticket provided (also giving discounts at some local attractions), there was no need to use the car locally. Excellent restaurant in the hotel for dinner, and a good quality breakfast.
The spa facilities were amazing, it was super dog friendly. Perfect locations for walking and relaxing. Beautiful little town to explore, and close to all the amazing sites in Bernese oberland for a day trip. The food at the hotel was really delicious, and the staff was super helpful!!
EVERYTHING IS PERFECT - the staff, the room, the service, the location, the view, and one of the best restaurants in Bernese Oberland. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. Been here before and will always come back if I stay in Kandersteg.
