This ryokan has a homey, lived in feel. It could use a bit of renovation truth be told. The carpets and walls are a bit worn. But the couple who run it and the staff who work for them are just so incredibly kind and lovely and the food and location are so excellent, you forgive the bit of shabbiness. The meals are amazing and the location across the river from the morning market is ideal. The rooms we were in were spacious and comfortable and I believe all the rooms have a view of the river.
Everything was great—location, hospitality room, room, staff, breakfast, washer and dryer was invaluable. Just a little paint and carpet touch up in rooms and hallways. Would stay here again.
The price was very reasonable. Free use of espresso machine from 1 pm to 8 pm. An unexpected bonus! The rooms were very comfortable- could do with new carpet, no other complaints. The hotel was so well located - only about 2 hundred metres to the train station and with lots of small restaurants in the nearby streets.
We loved our stay at Soy, it made our trip to Takayama even more special. Tai and his family were so lovely and accommodating, going beyond what we would have expected. It was so nice being able to pet the family cat, little Tama-chan, because we miss our cat back home so much. The breakfast in the morning was lovely as well. It was really a joy staying here - the next time we come to Japan we hope there will be availability for us to stay here again!
The clean rooms with firm pillows n mattress, the location- quiet, with big convenience store on opposite side of road n petrol station nearby( we drove) and just 10min drive out of town on good roads.
The onsen- both indoor n outdoor was great, good variety of jap side dishes for breakfast and some bun n croissant as well for those who need somethibg western, good coffee. And a lovely touch- free ramen or ice cream after 8pm for those who need a snack after their onsen dip
Lovely, friendly hotel. Petite rooms but with everything you need. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. We went to the spa in the nearby hotel which was super easy and pleasant. Brilliantly located.
The place was new and had great interiors! The location was just a block away from Takayama station. The room was so spacious and offers great views of the mountains. The breakfast set was also good but if you are staying more than 2 nights, it will be repetitive. We would definitely come back during a different season as it felt like you were in a cabin resort!
I was excited for our stay based off reviews and cost, however the room was very small, slight stain on sheet and carpet not clean. Location and reception staff great. Also no free parking available.
