Room was spacious, clean & beds were superb. Had a great nights sleep after a long day. Breakfast was enough to carry us through the day. The location was quiet, but close enough to walk into the city centre - be aware Durham is built on 'hills', it is s steep 'hill' to the hotel from Durham centre - that is probably the case anywhere from the centre. Anna was a brilliant host, always cheerful & helpful - as were all the staff.

Offering a variety of animal-adapted amenities, these properties provide a pet-friendly stay. Services may include sitting services, specialized bedding and dog walking. Some hotels even offer quirky perks like a gourmet room service menu for pets, as well as catnip and scratch poles.
Easy to find, good location and easy parking. The evening meals were good value and the menu varied.
Our room had been recently decorated and was very clean, although they might regret using plain carpets, there were already some coffee stains.
Fantastic location in a lovely setting, a 15 minute walk to Chester-le-Street Town centre. Lovely room, perfect for us and our small dog; excellent value for money.
Beautifully finished mid terrace. Perfect for doggies with private garden and a home away from home. Everything thought of from dog treats and towels to electric velux blinds. Fully equipped kitchen and laundry. Fiona was an attentive host.
Just a lovely relaxed atmosphere, very homely
Loved meeting poppett the resident castle cat
Staff all fantastic
Really good for all the attractions in the area
The Castle is beautiful, the food was amazing and the staff were all very friendly and helpful, even the resident cat! The Escape Room is definitely worth a try!
Lovely staff, including little Poppet, the castle's own cat! Beautiful stay with amazing views and comfortable atmosphere. Only wish we could have stayed longer! Will definitely be coming back though.
The room was nicely furnished and very comfortable. The historic quirkiness of the building made the hotel a very interesting place to explore. This was enhanced by the free movement of the resident cat Poppet, who seemed to go unseen by many of the visitors due to her working in stealth mode.
Enjoyed hearing the evening piper in the inner courtyard.
A wonderful venue with wonderful understanding and approachable staff. From the restaurant manager and her attentive and professional manner to the top class service from the staff there.
At reception and upon arrival we were met with excellent professional and courteous service. We also had the pleasure of meeting the resident cat Poppet. Overall once again a wonderful venue with outstanding service. Thank you for making our stay once again so wonderful and memorable.
