高野山 宿坊 恵光院 -Koyasan Syukubo Ekoin Temple-, hotel in Koyasan

A 1000 year-old Buddhist temple, Shukubo Koya-san Eko-in offers Japanese-style accommodation, a beautiful garden and free WiFi.

We stayed in Delux Family Room, which is large (50m2) and has a very spacious bathroom. There is a large bed for 2 and third person slept in the separate "room" on tatami rolled out bed. Everything was super nice and clean. We liked the location and ability to participate in meditation/morning service and fire ritual. There is a very elaborate kaiseki Japanese meal (all vegetarian) served in a private room on tatami. Monks speak very good english.

The breakfast was amazing, we stayed for 3 nights and every morning it was something different, nutritious and delicious! Staying with Paulo was amazing, she really goes above and beyond to make sure you feel welcome and have everything you need. The space itself is traditional Japanese and was beautiful to relax in, highly recommend! Koyasan is a very special place, if I was to ever return I would stay again at koyasan space as it fitted the vibe of the whole village.

Sojiin, hotel in Koyasan

Sojiin, located in the center of Mt. Koya, is a Japanese-style accommodation in a Buddhist temple located to the west of Sohonzan Kongobu-ji and in front of Danjo Garan.

We had an issue with the initial booking when we arrived, but the staff came to an amicable and very satisfactory solution. The food was amazing and our room overlooked the garden of the inn. The location was very close to one of the main temple complexes and a bus stop that takes you to and from the cable car. We attended the morning religious service at 6.30am and a talk afterwards by the hear priest. I would certainly take the time to attend these if I was staying.

Peaceful. Beautiful temple. Good vibe. Very clean. We had a traditional room, it was nice and spacious. We had to share bath toilet and so on.... but no problem, all very clean and nice. It was a very authentic stay and beautiful place. The staff were very polite and helpful. The food was plentiful, unique and very tasty. There was parking provided to the side of the accommodation and slippers and umbrellas were kindly provided. The temple was opposite the famous Konpon Daito and most places were in walking distance.

Morning prayer with the monks was lovely. The staff are friendly & helpful. Nice to have breakfast service on low tables in the tatami mat dining room. The onsen was not busy, and the outside bath was my favourite. A bus stop is nearby for an easy transfer. There is also a charge point for electric vehicles in the car park.

it was very cozy. we didn’t get to interact much with the staff but they were very nice. we parked to get our stuff down and didn’t move right away and got in the way of an angry neighbour and the owners (i think) came to let us know very kindly to move to the free parking lot nearby. in the family room with private bathroom there was hot/cold water dispenser and a bottle of green tea for everyone every night of the stay.

Located in the center of Koyasan, the room is comfy and clean but the best part of staying at Tommy is the hosts. We drove to Koyasan in the winter and wound up stuck on the narrow road to the hotel, just off the main road. The owner rounded up his friends and they all helped us get our car back up to the main road (Tip: Don't go down the narrow road with a car. There is parking nearby on the main street). Everyone was so helpful, with tips on where to go and what to see. Also, get breakfast! Delicious.
