Apartments Gonies reflects the perfect backcountry get away: We especially loved the close by hiking trails, scenic views from the mountain roads, and friendliness of everybody we met in the village of Gonies but the neighbouring communities, too. Last but not least the family who runs the tavern, and apartments brings hospitality to an entire next level. Not only do they offer perfect home made Cretan food in their tavern but in our room we were greeted by fruits, cake, water, juice and a bottle of local whine. For us it is no question that we rather stay, and support a Greek family business than to book into on of these stereo type resorts that you will easily find along the coast line. That counts in particular for off-season when resort town become ghost towns but live moves on in the beautiful mountain villages.

We really enjoyed the different levels and the stone walls. The living room sofa was so comfy and all the linens/towels we used were soft and smelled nice. Our host was kind and he gave us some really detailed and good recommendations!

We enjoyed our stay here! The manager of the house, Anna, is a very nice and kind person, happy to help with any info you may need. She even left some olive oil, eggs, bananas, tea, pasta and tomato sauce for us in the kitchen. Also there was coffee, sugar and salt available for us in case we need it, as well as soap and shower gel and clean towels. When we arrived, the key of the house was stored outside in a secured box, with easy access. Self check-in was simple and smooth. We had a great stay there. The courtyard next to the house is cool and shadowed by walnut trees. Very relaxing. There you can find a wooden pallets bed and a swing chair, and also a table with chairs, where we had our breakfast every morning. We stayed for 6 days and used to cook our breakfast in the house every morning and then in the evening we ate out. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to cook. We used to cook omelette, greek salad and pasta. There is a fridge in the house, so it's very convenient to buy some food and enjoy it while inside. Downstairs you'll find the kitchenette and the toilet, and upstairs is the bedroom. There is a double bed and a single bed in the room. We used the double bed (we are a couple) and had a very good sleep. The mattress is very comfortable, more on the firm side (our favourite kind of mattress). There is a window above the bed, on the side, and in the summer you can sleep with the window open, the temperature is perfect, not too warm, not too cold. In the bedroom you'll also find a clothes rack. We loved the location, the house is located in a mountain village and the neighbors are very nice! Even if small and a bit remote, the village is unexpectedly full of life in the summer months (we visited in July/ August). There you can find the oldest tree in Europe, about 2500 years old! It was a surprise for us to find out this, while staying there. We want to come back! Thank you, Anna!

such a gorgeous property and hidden gem in Crete. away from all the hustle and bustle with everything at your fingertips available at the property so you can just unwind and relax. my husband and I have been travelling around Europe for past few months and Velani was exactly what we needed to relax. the room was stunning with picturesque views, hot tub spa and expert masonry craftsmanship. the best place we have stayed at by far. the owners will make you feel welcome and treat you like family. thank you Manolis for your hospitality and going above and beyond for us.
