We planned to stay overnight for the harwich ferry. We were told the property would be unlocked and we could arrive late and walk in. unfortunately we couldn’t stay as someone else who has booked the room (accidentally a year in advance) and had already let themselves in. The staff were very kind and helpful in arranging a hotel in colchester. But it was so stressful and so late before we got there. We also distrurbed another family by walking into their property, which was opposite, as that one was unlocked! Please change the ‘just walk in arrangement’

We were impressed by the helpful, friendly manner of the staff, booking in and serving us throughout. The food was excellent and our son who accompanied us and dines out regularly in the UK and globally was suitably satisfied. My full English breakfast was delicious,- not always a “ given” !…Incidentally you were able to provide rooms near, but, thoughtfully, our son decided that my husband would be better on the first floor with fewer steps to tackle, This change was kindly organised. Outstanding service, facilities, decor and ambience, coupled with the fact that it feels like guests' experience is valued above making money for the business, make Talbooth House a rare treat in this era of commercialism. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a lovely stay, and the fact that entry to the spa is included in the room price make this one of the best value getaways around. Spa facilities were also excellent, with a large swimming pool and perfectly heated hot-tub.

Beautiful historic property in lovely village. The room was lovely and comfortable and everything provided is nice quality. They also offer gluten and dairy free options for those who with allergies and that was really great!
One of the biggest headaches when driving to your hotel is finding a convenient place to park, so these properties are on hand to take the pressure off. Options range from secure underground car parking, to safe spots within easy reach of the hotel itself.
The location was great, loads of lovely walks and pretty villages in the surrounding area. The property has been really well refurbished and has been tastefully decorated to give a homely feel. Parking on the drive was a great convenience. The hosts were very helpful and got straight back to us when we messaged.
Lovely quiet area with the added bonus of a hot tub. Lovely to have separate spaces for relaxing and dining. Good storage space for food and drinks with the use of the garage. Plenty of space for parking.
