We wanted an authentic Japanese experience during our first trip to Japan and found Yamashiro Onsen, Miyabi no Yado. From the moment of collection at the station the staff go out of their way to make you feel special. We were the only westerners during our stay which we loved. Yakutas, informal kimono are provided for wearing around the hotel and almost everyone wears one. We booked the included dinner and breakfast and it was exceptional. A lot of food and a wonderful opportunity for the adventurous to try new things. The meal has really been a highlight from an already pretty awesome holiday. We used an app called kuli kuli to translate menus and deepl for translating spoken messages to communicate with the staff. The vast majority only speak Japanese - as we are in Japan we had no issue with that and do not expect English to be spoken when we travel. That said check in was carried out in perfect English. The gardens are quite beautiful and we highly recommend spending a night or two here to relax. We did not explore the surrounding area or use the onsen as we have tattoos and did not have tattoo covers with us. This did not in anyway detract from our stay.

An Asian breakfast is available every morning at the ryokan. At Shirasagiyu Tawaraya, the traditional restaurant is open for dinner and serves Japanese cuisine. The ryokan is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. Amazing stay all around. The staff were extremely friendly and the hot springs by the river were fantastic. The meals were by far the best japanese food I've ever had. Located in a beautiful town with lots of shops and a nice walking trail along the river. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a traditional onsen ryokan experience.

Hosts made this property in a lovely fishing Harbour. Great communication with Annie and the use of bikes was an added bonus. Recommend the sakasushi for amazing fresh sushi and sake. Also enjoyed the experience of the public bath hot springs which is free with your room key . Great stay Thank you
Hot spring was amazing! We really liked and enjoyed everything at this place. Personnel was extremely friendly, room nicely decorated and the bath very relaxing.
Great traditional accommodation (Ryokan) with private Onsen. Very spacious rooms with authentic furniture including tatami mats. Coffee, drinks and snacks are for free. The location ist perfect for visiting the beautiful Kenroku-en Garden, the nearby castle or the traditional Geisha quarter (Higashi chaya). The Kanazawa station is approx. 25 minutes away (walking distance) and 10 minutes by taxi.
Very clean.Lovely Onsen. Great location.
The room is so comfy and clean. We love it that the hotel provide a kettle and a set of Japanese tea cups for us to make Japanese tea in the room. But what we like the most is the onsen, a Japanese hot spring pool. We went there every single night during our stay. It was a nice treat after a long walk from the sightseeing. The staff at the reception were also very helpful. She helped us make a reservation for us to eat at this very fine tempura restaurant in the Higashi Chaya district since we can’t speak Japanese.
1. Hot Spring is excellent. With outdoor hotspring is an unexpected bonus. It also give u extra happiness to provide you free ice-cream, and refreshment of a hot soup noddle (also free of charge). 2. The massage service is very good, in good price. 3. Extremely comfortable bed. 4. Very clean room and all facilities. 5. Warm and polite staffs. 6.Good location of 3 min walk to JR station/ bus station. 7. Good security. 8. Hotel Guests are goid as well.
Everything was very clean and tidy. The owner was too kind and ready to help. She took me to the train station twice during my stay. I liked the onsen and the room was also comfortable. I liked also the traditional setting or the ryokan.
The location was ideal. The room was comfortable well provided with snacks, fruits and drinks. It had a great river view, and it was relaxing hearing the river water flowing. The attached open air onsen was really great and allowed us to soak in the warm water from the hot spring and enjoying the view of the river and trees. Very relaxing. Dinners and breakfast were provided and very elaborate and well done; it was very good. And thanks for the bento set which was thoughtfully packed for us when we checked out to go to the airport.
Motoyu Ishiya is a slice of the past waiting for you to experience it. The property carried with it the atmosphere of older Japanese times be it the location, the polite formality of the staff or then classic architecture of the Ryokan. The room experienced had a garden view which in the recent snow had magnificent views. the dark sulphurous waters of the Ibsen (hot spring) were refreshing and nicely hot the food was plentiful and delicious.
