A wooden building stemming from 100 years ago, the property breathes a historical atmosphere. Exceptional & best onsen experience at the heritage onsen bath. All 3 public onsen are beautifully crafted in old wood and very well maintained with their original status. Having visited many onsen in Japan, their largest bath was truly something that I would never forget. It's also very nice that they have men/women/mix time schedule that balanced both tradition & modern needs.

Of course the Onsen (Natural hot spring baths) were wonderful. The restaurant is also very good and the buffet style allowed us to try many different dishes.
The ryokan is comfortable with good jazz music. Food was delicious and the private onsen is great too!
It was a beautiful stay and our first experience at a ryokan. We were made to feel very special from the moment we arrived, until the time we checked out. The meals were lovely. Lots of interesting things to try for both dinner and breakfast and dressed in the provided yukatas. We loooooved our private onsen in our room and also tried two of the three private onsens on site which can be used by any guest pending availability. Beautiful views! The town is also lovely but be prepared for the sulfur smell from the hot springs!
Kusatsu is a beautiful town, built around a hot spring. The hotel (ryokan) was located 2 blocks from the central area - well within easy walking distance. It was a perfect town and hotel for a 24-hour visit. Lots of stores and artisanal food in town. At the hotel, we enjoyed the public onsen as well as an hour in a private room. The kaiseki (multi-course) dinner was excellent as was the breakfast.
We had a lovely view of the mountains. The private onsen was very nice, but the public onsen is very good as well! The staff is very nice and always accomodating. If you like traditional Japanese food, you'll love what they serve during the evening and morning. I recommend to stay at this ryokan either during fall (momiji) or winter. We were a bit too early for the heavy snowfalls, but still managed to catch some snow the second evening. Even without the snow it was lovely. I can imagine it looks amazing with the fall colors!
This ryokan was truly beautiful. The room was very spacious, warm and clean. I loved the Japanese style rooms. The Ryokan kindly let us store our luggage there both before and after our check in/check out times and all the staff were extremely welcoming and kind. The private onsen was also beautiful and the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was absolutely delicious.
We had the perfect time in this Ryokan and we would highly recommend! The Food is very good and the whole Atmosphere is so nice. We want to say thanks to the Staff for all the nice and beautiful things they did for us! It was nice to be able to be able to adjust the temperature of the private Onsen in the Room, you can just add cold water if it's too hot. And I liked that you have to walk in Socks or barefeet in the whole Ryokan. You really let everydays life behind you after you checked in here.
The staff was very friendly and spoke fluent English, communicating was not a problem at all. The place was also very clean despite being very old, dating back to the Meiji period. There was a private onsen bath ( not reservable) which we managed to use - the water was said to be from the Yubatake - very hot and satisfying!
Hospitable staff, Alice helped me a lot in planning the trip to the next destination, very clean, the private onsen is great. A classic ryokan. 15 minutes walk to the town center
It was a very homely and cosy ryokan, with a personal touch. Owner was friendly and gave us free drink and coffee voucher. 4 private onsen to use when free. Rooms were very clean. Overall a pleasant experience for our overnight stay in Kusatsu
