Very, sleek and stylish hotel. We upgraded to a comfort twin and I think a smaller room would have been a bit squishy. Staff were super helpful (in Japanese) in organising a restaurant and forwarding my luggage. The onsen next door you can use was superb. Highly recommended.

Traditionally, onsens were located outdoors but a number of hotels also offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with ‘kuroyu’ black water known for its positive effects on skin.

Great ryokan with indoor and outdoor onsen and comfortable rooms. We had the breakfast which was very nice, no problem in having it vegetarian too. English is a bit of a problem but manageable.
Very nice hospitality of staff and authentic service with true ryokan experience. Tasty food dishes for both dinner and breakfast. The public onsen has an indoor and outdoor bath, the latter having a really nice atmosphere due to the natural surroundings. Although we had no private bathroom, the room was large, very clean, silent and comfortable overall.
Tuck away in a seculded place away from the main street of Kurokawa Onsen Area. Ryokan is very clean, room is big and comfortable. Omakase dinner is delicious. There are private onsens for rental if you want some privacy.
First stay at a ryokan- a unique Japanese experience.
Had a very relaxing stay overall and the location of the ryokan is perfectly situated to explore Kurokawa.
The staff were extremely helpful and tried to explain things the best they could despite the language barrier.
The indoor onsen was small but relaxing, it made my skin feel really nice the next day. I personally didn't try the outdoor onsen however my partner did and said that the smell was quite strong.
The cave onsen was a unique experience. They have private indoor n outdoor hot springs for booking. The English speaking female non-japanese staff was very friendly and pleasant. The ryokan also sent us to the bus stop when they learnt we are taking the bus to Hakata. Dinner was served around a fire place, giving a warm, fuzzy feel.
Clean, spacious room with comfortable futons, amenities and everything included.
Private onsen hot enough, indoor and outdoor onsen was clean, big and free flowing.
Small ryokan so it is quiet and intimate. Service was attentive.
This was my first ryokan experience and the staff took great care in explaining all the procedures and expectations to me :) They were very sweet and assisted me in any request. The room, while one of the smallest, had plenty of space and faced directly onto the river. The private onsen and public bath were great; I specially enjoyed the outdoor onsen.
The food was of very good quality and plenty.
The Kurokawa Onsen village is quaint for a short afternoon stroll.
As of early Feb 2023, the property is new. The host send us the entrance code 2 days before the check-in date and had an online video call when we arrived at the property. The beds are comfy. The floor heating is nice. The kitchen came with all necessary equipments. The indoor onsen and sauna is great for the get away. (Luckily, the host was able to fix the hot spring water pump before we arrived)
Great ryokan experience in a traditional small onsen town. Good availability of onsens both private and public, but even had public onsens to myself as a private onsen. I can highly recommend the outdoor onsens.
Also makes a good base to visit Mt Aso for walks.
