The staff was very friendly and supportive, and went out of their way to make our stay nice and memorable, eg by organizing a star gazing evening and doing a detour with the shuttle to show us the mearby Mt Ontake. The dinners were also fantastic and we've enjoyed the Onsen

Looking for a property with onsen?

Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as ‘onsen’, these hotels allow you to take a relaxing soak in therapeutic geothermal waters. Traditionally, onsens were located outdoors but a number of hotels also offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with ‘kuroyu’ black water known for its positive effects on skin.

The whole experience of staying at a ryokan for first time. Onsen so pampering after 2 days of flying/sitting on trains. Japanese dinners scrumptious and exquisitely presented. To return to our traditional Japanese room after such a dinner to find cosy futons laid out was simply heaven. Staff warm and caring. A perfect ryokan from which to explore magical old Nakasendo trail towns.

The family who runs this guest house has thought of everything. Looking for an extension cord so phone can be next to your futon? It’s in the room. Want to heat something up? Microwave on the 4th floor. You can adjust the lighting in the room, there’s extra blankets and I could go on. Everything is clean and cozy, and the family is very friendly. I especially liked the outdoor onsen.

Well appointed Ryokan on the mountainside above the Kiso valley. Food was delicious and incredibly generous. Staff were very accommodating of dietary restrictions. Relaxing onsen with a charming garden setting. A wonderful experience.

The staff was super friendly and warm-hearted fully living up to Japanese hospitality standards. Definitely a great plus! And they immediately responded to our complaints about the first room and accomodated us by giving us a new room right away. Also good indoor and outdoor onsen :)

The staff were very helpful and gave great local recommendations for places to visit around town. The onsen was fantastic, everything was provided and the temperature was perfect. We were walking a few sections of the Nakasendo trail and this was a great place to rest. There’s a local hot spring foot bath close by which was perfect to soak our feet after a long day of walking - with the added bonus of enjoying ice cream and a view!

This was a lovely traditional Japanese ryokan. The outdoor onsen was beautiful and so peaceful in nature. The free stargazing tour was wonderful and the guide was so knowledgeable. The food included was delicious and generous, and it was nice to taste so many different Japanese foods. We were picked up and dropped off at the train station, included in the room rate. The ryokan is in a nice quiet location, but only a short journey from the station. The staff were very friendly.

In short, everything. But I particularly loved all the meals provided by the ryokan. The onsen was great, but with the ryokan being situated practically in the woods, I would love an even closer to nature setting of the outdoor onsen.

Mr. Koike and his Wife was very welcoming. He even picked us up from Tsumago-Juku. The Dinner and the Breakfast was just amazing. The room has a balcony with a view to the waterfall. The private onsen was very clean and relaxing. Would come again for sure. Best regards from Austria :)
