Renovated in 2016, the beautiful, chalet-like Active Life Madarao offers ski-to-door access from Madarao Kogen Ski Resort, a 3-minute walk away. It features a garden, a terrace and free WiFi throughout the entire property. Guests can unwind in a hot spring bath on site.

It was large enough to be comfortable in and not feel crowded but small enough to be cozy. It felt like staying in a friend’s place rather than a hotel and we liked that. The location was ideal, a short walk to lift and among all the eating and drinking places. I had snowboard courses and that was great too.

The FTM is very warm, and this kind of forest cabin is the dream of people from southern China for the snowy winter season. The hotel is right next to the ski slopes and even within walking distance. There are good restaurants right next to the hotel which is very convenient. Nick and Karina is from Australia. They are very friendly and nice. My family had great help with transportation to Nozawa Onsen and to the Shinkansen station from Nick & Karina. Three nights of stay is a wonderful experience.

Absolutely loved this place, room was an excellent size loads of room best size I've ever had in Japan. The outdoor onsen was breathtaking when it snowed and every thing you needed was right there. Only thing was its a bit of a trek up to the main area restaurants etc but the hotel staff dropped us up at a restaurant for dinner we just stroled back down after and got very drunk in the karaoke room lol

I enjoyed everything about this stay. The room was very cozy, and their was an onsen inside the guest house as well. The main thing I wanna point out is the service - Kadowaki-san was such a fantastic host, helping with gear rental, recommendations, and general inquiries. It was very nice to talk to as well and very efficient with Google Translator :D. I was in Japan for 2 weeks, and this was by ease the best place I stayed at. Will definitely be back to this place and highly recommend it.

Good price, good location and staff were very friendly. Rooms were well furnished and had lots of extra blankets or pillows. The hotel also has its own onsen on the second floor. Heater worked well and there was complementary hot spring supplies. The staff was very friendly on check-in and check-out and the place has an elevator too if you have some heavy baggage. Location is only one corner away from the main restaurants and where most of the action happens, and is located right next to the bus stop too.

The ryokan was clean and well maintained. The in-house onsen was so convenient after a day on the slopes. Daily breakfast was delicious and we highly recommend booking the ryokan dinner for at least one night. Close proximity to the slopes and central bus stop (from Iiyama). Would definitely stay here again next time.

We loved our time here. Service was friendly but always efficient and professional. Everything we needed for a fabulous ski holiday was literally right at our door step. Breakfast and dinner were included and these meals were generous and catered to all tastes. The onsen experience was precious. There is nothing like the hot pool outside with snowflakes swirling down around you!

Super efficient check-in (which isn't always the case!). Rooms are a bit dated, though very functional. Buffet breakfast was good, and lovely views from the restaurants and cafes in the hotel. Nice enough onsen. Can't beat the convenience of the location!

The room with shower was large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with eggs cooked to order. Dinner is also excellent value. It is truly ski-in, ski-out - probably the best located accommodation in Madarao. Very nice bathhouse with natural hot spring in the basement. The wonderful owner and his family cannot do enough for you. Thoroughly recommend.

Very close to the slopes and great atmosphere downstairs. Dan is a lovely manager and the small bar at the front was a place to meet other travelers at the end of the day. They have a small private onsen in the basement.
