FAQs about hotels in Cape Town

Cool, Colourful Cape

Between mountains and beaches, the 2nd largest city in South Africa mixes history, resilient modernity, and a typical laidback African character. From the top of Table Mountain to the colourful Bo Kaap quarter, and from the Victoria & Albert Waterfront to the modern business district, Cape Town blends multicultural influences and beautiful nature.

Known as Kaapstad in Afrikaans, its sunny weather and mild temperatures make it a perfect place to enjoy the large number of beaches that surround it. From Sunset Beach to Hout Bay, and from Simon’s Town to Gordon Bay, this city offers a variety that suits all tastes. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular activity in False Bay.

Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settling process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside Cape Town.

Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

I was there on business, but the red bus is the best way to get around town and to get a good idea of Cape Town in a short space of time. My favourite visit is swimming the penguins on Boulders Beach, Sunsets in Bantry Bay or Camps Bay - absolutely breathtaking.

It is the most beautiful city in Africa, clean with gorgeous beaches, beautiful sunsets and fantastic restaurants. Table mountain is breathtakingly majestic as it rises above the city's skyline and seemingly engulfs it in its wide embrace creating a oneness between city living and nature. Cape town, for me, ranks in the top 10 places in the world everyone must visit.

It's a budget hotel but it had a diverse clientele which was nice. I was expecting everyone staying there to be white tourists (they seem to be everywhere in Cape Town) so it was great to come down to breakfast and see black Africans seated, the women in very colourful dresses. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. They even do a very reasonably priced laundry service. The area was quiet and just two minutes from the famous sea front at Sea Point. I spent two weeks in the hotel and didn't regret it for a minute.

Exquisite boutique hotel in prime location on the Beach Road, right on the promenade. Superb and imaginative design, comfortable and well-appointed room and super friendly and professional staff. What makes it different from many upmarket hotels is personal service - you really feel like a valued guest, not just another customer. There are lots of restaurants nearby, and a secure car park for your vehicle. Cannot recommend it more to anyone wishing a comfortable and enjoyable stay in Cape Town.

The location was very convenient - right in the heart of City Bowl and walking distance to the waterfront. The hotel is really cute and funky. The rooms were clean and comfortable and functional but pretty sparse. This is not luxury hotel! However, the very cool rooftop bar/patio made up for it. It has a great vibe. The restaurant downstairs was really good and the staff were helpful and friendly. I would stay there again for sure. It's a little gem.
