Santa Cruz Huatulco is essentially a sun/heat/pool/beach location.
Due to its increasing popularity as a tourist destination, prices have escalated in the last 4 years. In fact quite sustainably. Hotel, food and boat excursion prices are similar to those in most Canadian cities. Taxi fares are quite reasonable.
If you are looking for cultural activities (museums, galleries, concerts, etc.), this is not a good location.
Be prepared for earthquakes.

Found some of the eating establishments were very expensive for the type of food offerings. It was very hard to find value for your monies. The local food carts were great and great prices.
Loved Nico’s cafe for a great sandwich. Trifty’s had great ice cream.
The local flea market was good, only found the jewellery stores outrageously expensive. They really insulted my intelligence. Needless to say I did not buy anything there. I usually pick up something, and was hugely disappointed. Mind you the jewelry styles were very dated unlike Cabo or Playa del Carmen.

Great location for access to the rest of Huatulco.
Great location for access to the rest of Huatulco. It's a main beach so it's crowded and the cruise ships dock here so the water is murky - no snorkeling. Santa Cruz has very few stores - no grocery store, no fresh fruit/vegetable stores - so you have to take a cab to Chedraui or into La Crucecita.

This place suits Canadian/American tourists in couple or family. So many Canadian tourists, and it seemed like the city had also made changes to accommodate the Canadian culture better. Not a very nice city and not very walkable. Taxi situation is great though, unionized and standardized rates. Feels very safe.

We enjoyed Huatulco and La Crucecita but you can give the little beach town of Santa Cruz a miss. It is a seedy little town that has completely caved to the cruise ships and disrespectful tourists. Not sure what the beachside restaurants are all about. They all seem to use the same kitchen!!! And the obnoxious behavior of the staff was so offensive, as if we are stupid and illiterate. We didn’t have this experience anywhere else in the state of Oaxaca during our month long trip.

Santa Cruz Huatulco is very similar to where I lived (Ixtapa) except it's a lot bigger. I only spent one night there and left the next morning. From what I saw it was very pretty, the buildings are nicely painted, no garbage on the street, the people I met were all friendly. I didn't check out the beach or go anywhere so I have no idea what the night life is like, it's a tourist resort town, fun and sun.

We had breakfast included during our stay. The breakfast was good but not much selection or choice to change it up.
We like the location. It is centrally located.
We really liked the staff. They were very helpful and responsive.
It was a very clean Hotel and the swimming pool was clean and well maintained. We also the many plants and palm trees that surrounded the Hotel. The staff paid attention to detailed and took wonderful care in all areas. The staff were very accommodating.
The property itself is large and has very friendly staff. The bathroom is large; the rooms are bright and clean and the bed is very comfortable.
The swimming pool is a good size and overall the feeling of the hotel is very homely.
The staff were very helpful and gave us advise on restaurants, taxis and tours. There was also a very friendly dog!
The breakfast was good, especially since it was included in the price. Lots of variety.
The rooms, facilities were all very nice and well maintained. We appreciated that there was a coffee maker and blow dryer in the room. You don't always find that in Mexico.
The shuttle service was nice...but also a requirement for many of the guests.
Right on the beach, which despite the red flags is very swimmable if you know how to swim. The issue is the sloping beach and a bit of undertow that could be a problem for non-swimmers. Service is outstanding, and the restaurants--7 of them are all fantastic. We stayed in a room with a plunge pool and we used it!
Beautiful private beach. Nice quiet intimate hotel. Don’t understand why people may have any complaints stating It’s furniture is old & pool tiles chipping. If they are upset next time book a five star at triple the price. Dreams and Secrets are right next door for those folks. All in all thought it was lovely.
Nice delicious breakfast, despite few options. The view from the room was excellent!
It is like being in a house rather than a hotel, in a quiet residential area, great for a good rest, but not so much for looking for something more. If you want to go out for dinner, you have to take a cab or drive.
First of all the location of the hotel is amazing! The staff was friendly as soon as arrival. They greeted us with a non alcoholic smoothie since it was hot!! The bed was AMAZING! Me and my boyfriend did not want to leave after 3 days there. Would recommend & hope to one day visit Huatulco Again <3
Beautiful tranquil property! The room was so spacious, quiet, comfortable and I loved the toiletries. The hammock on the balcony was also nice for relaxing. Breakfast at the restaurant was tasty and staff helped me arrange a transfer to the bus station. Note: there is not much around the hotel.
The hotel is a Spanish Mexican style , old school which I find very comfortable.I’ve travelled extensively in Mexico staying at the same Mexican owned hotels and travelled in Spain staying at the same types of hotels and enjoy them Also this hotel was extremely clean.
Clean, very basic hotel. Good for a nite or 2. Close to ADO / OCC bus terminal. Young staff , smiley, friendly but did not even get up to open the door for us ( lots of luggage ) . No safe. Toilet paper ran out in the middle of the nite . No tissue box.
Great location and friendly staff. There is great care taken with the hotel - it is very clean and there are so many beautiful plants around the property and the pool area is like a little oasis. Breakfast was great, too. A/c worked great.
The hotel and the rooms are amazing, just as they appear in the pictures! The communal areas around the hotel and the pool are really great and the food in the restaurant it excellent (a little expensive, but really good quality).
The Hotel looked nicer in the picture. In reality it was an average hotel with basic room and comfort. The highlight was the stuff. Very friendly staff. Also, they let me check in early, which I appreciated very much.
Nice clean facilities with comfortable beds. Great staff. Seems very safe with a front gate and guard 24/7. Rooms come with mini fridge, microwave, and coffee-maker, which most other hotels in the area don't have.
Quiet location close to a fantastic beach. Staff super kind. Perfect Service. Nice experience different from noisy and crowded 'all inclusive' resorts so common in other parts of Mexico.
The hotel is on a beautiful beach, very easy to get to from the airport. The bell boys are wonderful and extremely helpful with luggage and arrange transport to other locations.
Overall very good. I was in the back of the hotel and the wifi was questionable
Great staff but like every other place in Mexico there was no hot water
