Santa Cruz Huatulco is essentially a sun/heat/pool/beach location.
Due to its increasing popularity as a tourist destination, prices have escalated in the last 4 years. In fact quite sustainably. Hotel, food and boat excursion prices are similar to those in most Canadian cities. Taxi fares are quite reasonable.
If you are looking for cultural activities (museums, galleries, concerts, etc.), this is not a good location.
Be prepared for earthquakes.

Found some of the eating establishments were very expensive for the type of food offerings. It was very hard to find value for your monies. The local food carts were great and great prices.
Loved Nico’s cafe for a great sandwich. Trifty’s had great ice cream.
The local flea market was good, only found the jewellery stores outrageously expensive. They really insulted my intelligence. Needless to say I did not buy anything there. I usually pick up something, and was hugely disappointed. Mind you the jewelry styles were very dated unlike Cabo or Playa del Carmen.

Great location for access to the rest of Huatulco.
Great location for access to the rest of Huatulco. It's a main beach so it's crowded and the cruise ships dock here so the water is murky - no snorkeling. Santa Cruz has very few stores - no grocery store, no fresh fruit/vegetable stores - so you have to take a cab to Chedraui or into La Crucecita.

This place suits Canadian/American tourists in couple or family. So many Canadian tourists, and it seemed like the city had also made changes to accommodate the Canadian culture better. Not a very nice city and not very walkable. Taxi situation is great though, unionized and standardized rates. Feels very safe.

We enjoyed Huatulco and La Crucecita but you can give the little beach town of Santa Cruz a miss. It is a seedy little town that has completely caved to the cruise ships and disrespectful tourists. Not sure what the beachside restaurants are all about. They all seem to use the same kitchen!!! And the obnoxious behavior of the staff was so offensive, as if we are stupid and illiterate. We didn’t have this experience anywhere else in the state of Oaxaca during our month long trip.

Santa Cruz Huatulco is very similar to where I lived (Ixtapa) except it's a lot bigger. I only spent one night there and left the next morning. From what I saw it was very pretty, the buildings are nicely painted, no garbage on the street, the people I met were all friendly. I didn't check out the beach or go anywhere so I have no idea what the night life is like, it's a tourist resort town, fun and sun.

Good location, but less mobile guests would need to take the regular shuttles from reception to the upper rooms and to the beach. Not a problem for us though. We liked the Mexican food, buffet style and with fish and selection of vegetables every day. Burgers and chips available separately, if that's your style. Rooms were comfortable, clean with plenty of space. Quiet and relaxing. Hotel is not in a very built up area and there's even a small river with plenty of local wildlife nearby, especially birds hunting fish.
this property was very well run and the cheerful staff made it so enjoyable. The staff went above and beyond to keep it clean and answered our questions, the pool was fantastic after a day of exploring this beautiful area of Mexico. the proximity to beaches, downtown la Cruceceita and the supermarket across the street and abundance of great restaurants within walking distance made our stay terrific. we would definitely recommend JAROJE for a short or long stay.
In my top 5 favorite hotels ever. The staff here are consistantly of the finest caliber. You will never feel neglected. I have stayed here 3 times in the last three years and I love it. Beds are very comfortable, shower is spacious and the rooms are impeccably clean. The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of options. To top it all off there is a barrista in the lobby making Starbucks coffees. Wifi is good and I was able to get in a couple days of work.
Location is perfect for walking - Santa Cruz is easy to get to and you are very close to Playa Chahue. It's a beautiful hotel with a lovely pool. Our room was located on the 3rd floor and a little farther away from the pool area which was a bonus. Really nice restaurant with good choices on the menu and the breakfast buffet was stellar. Staff was very helpful when needed. Housekeeping was impeccable. We would happily choose to stay here again!
Location was amazing! Right on the beach, beautiful sunrise every morning, often there were whales out beyond the bay we could see while we ate breakfast on the patio looking out at the sea. We enjoyed our balcony looking over the ocean and the pools. The restaurants were wonderful- especially breakfast, Rustico and Aroma. We were a nice walk from La Crucecita and from Santa Cruz beach - or a 35 peso taxi ride. Tremendous value for paradise!
Brand new hotel situated in a quiet central part of town. Some rooms come with fully equipped kitchens which we loved as we were able to make dinner and relax. Amazing king beds/ sheets/ pillows and extremely clean. Hot water. Amazing staff and service from all. Mr. Manager was super helpful and hospitable and made our stay so perfect. Small grocery food shops next door so you can buy everything you need. Thank you!!
The pool and pool area is lovely. Probably the best part of the hotel. The beds are extremely hard and as this was my second stay here, after my first night I asked for either a room with a more comfortable bed or a mattress overlay. They were very accommodating
The restaurants are great.
Juan who does pool service is one of the nicest hardest working employees there. He always has a smile and a word
Location is a 5 minutes walking to Santa Cruz beach, gentle waves. Several varieties and levels from street food to classy restaurants, some on the beach. Quite close to the cruise ship pier, so lots of shopping for Mexican handicrafts.
Taxis will take you into the centre ot Playa Entrega for 35 pesos. Offer 40 before you get in. Be sure the market (mercado) in the centre. Great for family cooked meals.
Great location on the beach, it was more like a boutique resort without the resort! Nice pretty little rooms, just as pictured, good layout for shade, some options for bigger rooms at a small price difference. Wonderful food next door, all well made thoughtful local cuisine. Staff were nice. It’s very low key here, just a few guests in a small fishing village with activity only at dawn for fishing.
Had an amazing time at Casa Xtao. The hotel itself is excellent with brand new facilities, and the staff were incredible!
I want to say a special thank you to Ray, Felipe and Gris for putting so much effort in to making us feel so welcomed. Huatulco is a very nice place and we will certainly be returning to Casa Xtao.
Thank you for everything! Jack and Nadia
The breakfast was good, especially since it was included in the price. Lots of variety.
The rooms, facilities were all very nice and well maintained. We appreciated that there was a coffee maker and blow dryer in the room. You don't always find that in Mexico.
The shuttle service was nice...but also a requirement for many of the guests.
The hotel is authentic and the staff working at the reception was very understanding (especially Ulise, that helped me with the check-in and information)
I payed the breakfast at the reception and I had a wonderful stay.
The hotel is very close to the beach and to Santa Cruz centre.
The breakfast is rich.
The location very central to most everything and taxis are very inexpensive here.
The hotel is a simple Mexican hotel, beds are comfy and rooms are very clean. Staff was most helpful and most friendly.
The owner has dogs that may bark on occasion, this was not a problem for us. Remember you are in Mexico.
This hotel is extremely bad. We had a really bad experience and the manager, Leonel, didn’t want to hear from us and to recognize all the problems of his hotel. This hotel is absolutely not a resort and is not worth the price paid. We want our money back!
Great stay!!
Specious rooms with a nice balcony. It was also pretty clean compared to other hotels.
Location is also great, close to the town. Wifi works pretty well too. The hotel also has it's own restaurant which offers traditional breakfast.
The hotel and the rooms are amazing, just as they appear in the pictures! The communal areas around the hotel and the pool are really great and the food in the restaurant it excellent (a little expensive, but really good quality).
The breakfast was fine. The facility is beautiful and easy to drive to. Gorgeous view of the ocean and love the design of the hotel. Two beautiful pools.
