Ideally situated in Takayama, eph TAKAYAMA features a continental breakfast and free WiFi throughout the property. This 4-star hotel offers luggage storage space.

The staffs are friendly. We carelessly wet the quilt, and hotel staff kindly help us change the new one for us instantly. Then, the wooded bathroom is excellent! We enjoyed the warm and natural atmosphere when bathing. That’s so unbelievable! Finally, the location is closed to both bus and train stations, and only need 3min to walk. Totally, we enjoyed this trip and satisfied the service from hotel.

Ideally located just a 2-minute walk from JR Takayama Station and Shirakawa-go Bus Terminal, this hotel boasts a natural hot spring bath where guests can unwind. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas.

The room was tiny for 3 people, but we only stayed 1 night so it was ok. With more nights and more luggage (we only had medium-sized backpacks) it would have been tricky to move around. I loved the common area of the hotel and the breakfast was great: typical Japanese. It was not super touristy, we were the only Europeans staying at that time, I think. The staff was helpful and welcoming. We enjoyed the window view, though narrow. The location is great, quiet, off the main road, but 5 minutes away from the station.

Takayama was my favourite destination in Japan - it is beautiful, a little calmer than some of the other tourist attraction cities and there was lots to see and do. I wish I had stayed longer. The espresso from the riverside market was the best coffee I had in Japan!

    We highly recommend a visit.

We highly recommend a visit. The city is beautiful and provides a respite from the larger cities. The sound of the river seems to permeate the city. The flowering of cherry trees is magnificent during theSpring Festival. Some beautiful shrines and Edo period buildings, including a museum that provides an opportunity to walk through the living quarters and government administrative buildings and identifies the day to day functioning of a local government officials. There is a wonderful, ‘tiny’ bar near the Retro Museum that is a place to hang out and meet other travelers and converse with the owner. His creative cocktails are really delicious. Loved the outside and upstairs seating as well. This city knows how to welcome its guests with benches and a customer friendly attitude. Wonderful experience.

We had chosen the room with private onsen with breakfast and dinner included. We were shown to our room by an Obasan (As our room was deep inside the ryokan towards the end!), and she explained everything about our room and the facilities available! Modern amenities with the rustic traditional ryokan, love it. We had an allocated private space to dine in at the restaurant, and the set course meal was really enjoyable! As we spoke little to none Japanese, the staff were thoroughly helpful and tried their best in explaining.

It is an interesting experience, in between a traditional ryokan and a modern tower hotel. Would definitely recommend if you want something more special than 'just a hotel' or something simpler than a full blown traditional ryokan. The public baths are amazing! The view from the outdoor bath at the top of the tower, over the city, is amazing. The breakfast was great, you could easily choose to have a Japanese style breakfast or a Western style breakfast (or why not some combination of the two.)

Ryokan Asunaro went above and beyond my expectations. The food for dinner and breakfast were delicious. The room was beautiful and the onsen was so relaxing. not only that, they allowed me to keep my luggage there while I explored Takayama for the day and when I got back I asked them to call for a taxi so I could bring my luggage to my next hotel. Since all the taxi were busy, one of their staff drove me to my hotel (in Takayama.) I am so incredibly grateful. Highly recommend!

We stayed here for 1 night during the Takayama Spring Festival , it was one of the few hotels with a room available during this very busy time in Takayama. Turned out to be a great stay. A short walk to Hilda Folk Village. A traditional ryokan with onsen which we tried for the first time and enjoyed the experience. We caught the bus from the city centre to get there. They provided a free shuttle back into Takayama the next morning.

It was one of our best accomodation ever. The place was cozy, clean and very beautifully decorated. It really has a ryokan spirit, but recently renovated. The attention of Tai and his family was overwhelming, taking us and picking us up to and from downtown Takayama, giving us recommendations.. they even had a nice detail to prepare us a cake to celebrate our honeymoon. The japanese breakfast that they prepared for us was amazing.

The location could not be better - a 2 minute walk from the train and bus station and close to family mart, shops and restaurants and a 10 min stroll across the river to the Old Town.
