Kiyomizu-dera Temple
The Kiyomizu-dera – or Pure Water – Temple is a Kyoto must-see. Pilgrims have been flocking to this sacred site since the 8th century, so the steep path up is lined with souvenir stalls and snack stands. In spring, it looks out over a sea of pink cherry blossom, while autumn provides picture-perfect panoramas of flame-coloured maple trees.

Like anyone will tell you, make sure you go EARLY so you can beat the crowds. I went at about 8 or 9 AM just before a really big tourist crowd came in and I was able to see the temple and walk around fine. It is beautiful and you can get really nice views of the whole city from up there.

If you can visit the temple in June or Autumn, you'll have really great views. Always respect the temple surroundings and be silent. Other than that, you can enjoy a wonderful place made entirely without any nails. Also, you can walk the path next to the temple to get other unique views.

best to wear comfortable shoes as this is a bit of hike.
best to wear comfortable shoes as this is a bit of hike. best to approach this place from yazaka area the go thru the park towards ninenzaka and sanenzaka. these two streets have lots of small traditional shops which you can also explore. we had lunch in sannenzaka area and a tea experience is also worth around that place. so many snack area along the way and many visitors wear kimonos. best to visit during autumn or spring season

The temple was completely different in person than I expected. I thought the main deck faced the city, but it actually faces to the side, which makes for a great shot with the city in the background. I loved it!! It was stunning and really fun to walk around. The area to walk around was much bigger than I expected as well.

This is a fantastic apartment in Kyoto's old town, just a few minutes walk from the amazing Kiyomizu-dera temple and the ancient streets like Sannenzaka, yet in a quiet spot. The beds were so comfy - better than any hotel I have ever stayed in (including five-star ones,) and the bathroom was new and high-tech. The host Yutaka was so friendly and helpful and speaks excellent English. I would recommend this accommodation to anyone.
Perfect location within walking distance to many tourist attractions. Nice quiet street. We had a balcony which was great on a warm evening. We got up early and made it to the Kiyomizu-dera temple by 6am. So glad we did as we got great photos and views without the crowds.
Very conveniently located to train station. Walking distance to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Ninenzaka, Kamo River and quite a few places of interest too!
Their laundry and driver machine is a plus especially after walking and tracking the last few days there. At least no sweaty and smelly laundry in luggage.
Lovely traditional style wooden machiya property. Sliding doors, tatami mats, sleep on futons etc. Close to Kiyomizu-Dera temple. Very friendly English speaking host.
