One of the favorite spots we stayed throughout our entire Japan trip. The common area definitely lives up to the hype from the photos, with a small fire in the fireplace each night, really setting the vibes. Stayed in the capsule style room, which was very comfortable and had plenty of space for two people. As some people mentioned the small bit of airflow you get from the vent can leave the room feeling a little bit stuffy, though we had no issue sleeping through the night during some warm days in the region.
The entire town of Motohakone is definitely walkable, so this spot is in a great location to the main port, bus stop and parks along the lake. If you are looking for some reprieve from the bustle of Japan’s cities, definitely stay at Rohen for a couple of nights.
A 3-minute walk from Ubako Station on the Hakone Ropeway and 919 feet from Ubako bus stop, Green Plaza Hakone offers open-air hot-spring baths with Mount Fuji views.

I liked how secluded it was and that it was deep in the mountains. I also liked how we were right above a waterfall, so it was very nice to hear at night. The whole property had a retro Showa vibe to it. The shuttle car was very clean, and the staff was very warm and helpful. Moreover the autumn themed dinner (especially the snapper pie) was fantastic, and so was the ice cream available on the fifth floor. Most importantly, the onsen was very relaxing.

Impeccable service from beginning to end. We felt like we were treated like royalty! The private onsen in our room was amazing. And the food, both the kaiseki dinner and breakfast, was so delicious and beautifully prepared. We also really liked this part of Hakone, next to Lake Ashi, where we could walk/run along the lake and see the views of Mt. Fuji and the Hakone Shrine. Our stay was just the relaxation and pampering we needed after busy active days in Kyoto and Osaka!
Common area was very cozy and property was right by the water, minutes walking to the Hakone shrine with balcony views of the lake. The food was very good, convenient, and reasonably priced. Taller people may feel cramped, but otherwise this was a fantastic place to stay.
The hotel is beautifully situated on Lake Ashi, right beside Hakone Shrine and the Tori gate out in the lake. The hotel runs a shuttle bus from the nearby transpot hub on the banks of the lake, where buses to and from Odawara as well as the sightseeing cruise ships can be boarded. The hotel was also extremely clean and well presented. Our room was spacious and comfortable.
The people from concierge and the shuttle driver are extremely polite and helpful! The landscape is supposed to be very beautiful when the flowers are blooming, the lake and mountain view from the rooms are nice, the hot springs in the hotel are very comfortable, the hotel to the bus station , ferry port, restaurants as well as to the hakone shrine is in walking distance.
1. Front door lake view with Hakone shrine.
2. Central location
3. Homely feeling with home facilities
4. Easy check in n check out with key put in big locker with password
We booked this accommodation because of the private open air bath. And we are very pleased of it. We are also very happy because the staff made us very feel special. They have attended all our needs from arrival to dropping us off to the bus station. The traditional Japanese breakfast was superb. The area is near Lake Ashi and Hakone Shrine where you can further relax and enjoy nature.
It is on a great location! Very easy to walk to various attractions like Hakone shrine or even the check point! There was also the kitchenette so we could buy food and cook for ourselves.
The rooms were traditional and I loved that! The view of the lake was awesome! I love the huge windows. We had the lake view and got my son the mountain view, his room was actually the better choice. It was bigger and was at the corner so it had a view of the mountain and the lake! The location was great and a short walk to the Hakone Shrine. The staff was great too! I also loved the little welcome sign with our names in the front.
