Covering gentle hills overlooked by higher peaks, Sanremo is a sophisticated Italian Riviera town with a glamorous casino. Built in 1905, this Liberty-style building hosts rounds of the Italian and European Poker Tours.
Down the road are the colourful minarets of San Basilio Russian Orthodox Church, while in the opposite direction is the Ariston Theatre, home of the Sanremo Music Festival – Italy’s biggest musical contest.
Nearby Piazza Colombo is a large square enlivened with vibrant flowers. Sanremo (or San Remo) is known as the City of Flowers and has the Mediterranean’s most important flower market. The surrounding area also produces olive oil, and fine examples can be purchased in shops of hillside La Pigna, the medieval part of town accessible only by stone steps.
Atop the hill, the Regina Elena Gardens provide lovely views down to the sandy beach and yacht-lined marina. Whale watching and diving trips depart from the harbour, and a few streets away is Villa Nobel, where Alfred Nobel died. A cycle path runs nearby and continues along the Ligurian coast all the way to Genoa, following the route of the old train tracks.
The modern tracks are underground and the train station is surrounded by the Sanremo accommodation on Booking.com, ranging from cheap apartments and guest houses to 5-star hotels.

Sanremo itself is bustling with purple day and night, good place to observe humanity. Location is good for visiting Ventimiglia, France, Dolceaqua, Bordighera and other delightful hill towns. Train is fastest, bus is more scenic and interesting. The world lives in this area, especially Ventimiglia. I originally came to do the bike ride with an E-rental, Ospedaletti to Imperia, which is lovely, but this time I was too busy enjoying the territory. Don't miss Dolceaqua and Bordighera. I hear there is also now a bike path connecting the 2 towns.
Did I mention the great food?

It is a very lovely town, fits perfectly for the family vacation or to live in a peaceful place in retirement or even for a youth recreation. But it is not very big city, so if you are an active kind of people - there's not much to do after a week of being there.

Beautiful beach town.
Beautiful beach town. Perfect for a few relaxing days away with great food and great wine.
Everything within walking distance. Bikes can be hired to explore nearby towns.
We stayed at Sanremo Luxury Suites, which were right on the sea front and great value for money.
Our favourite restaurants were:
Ristorante Maona (try the carbonara)
Ristorante La Fontana (try the saffron ravioli)
Solentiname (try the mixed meats, or the Angus beef)
You can book with FlixBus or BlablaCar for a bus that will take you direct to Nice airport for under £20 for 2 people. Ensure that you find the correct bus stop. The bus stop isn't in or in front of the bus station; it's actually on the road opposite.

Very family orientated and quite spread out along the liguria coast
Really, very different from the neighbouring Cote D'azur - more reserved and less glamorous. Not a lot of tourists The people were friendly, when I was asking for directions on my cycle to San Remo and then back to Nice, France. The hotel Corso, I stayed in was very dated and did not have any smoke alarms - so really not great - safety wise......
Food was noticeably cheaper than in France
The beaches were quite small and busy with local families
The dedicated cycle route/Capo Nero tunnel from San Remo to Ospadaletti was really great and a real highlight of the ride
Important Cycle tip - avoid the road tunnel from Menton to Grimaldi - use the alternative route at the traffic lights at Port Garavan, Menton ,France for your safety - but is is a 15% gradient climb into Grimaldi - so you need strong legs !

Sanremo is a beautiful coastal town with lots of hidden gems. The beachfront is beautiful with a cycle path that stretches the entirety of the coast both to the east and the west.
The old town up the hill is interesting and varied with lots of alleyways and lots of steps.
The port has a sea wall that you can walk along and gives a great view back to the amazing coastline.
Throughly recommend visiting Sanremo if you’re after something a little bit different but wants walks and views.
The restaurants and cafes are amazing and they are all great value for money. Most areas around the centre of town have free communal Wi-Fi.
It's hard to complain on anything here, everything was perfect. Thanks to the hosts for the hospitaity! We've had fantastic stay in San Remo! :-) If you hesitate whether to stay here or not - just don't hesitate, you won't be disappointed. Looking forward to getting back one day...
about this property we liked the room’s view 😍😍; the room is great, the staff 👍🏻👍🏻; the location : not too far to San Remo by walk and Bussana Vecchia by car, near a shop; the parking easy to park; possibility to rent a bike
