The Vatican
The world’s smallest state is also one of its most attraction-packed spots. As the centre of the Catholic Church, Vatican City is chock-full of awe-inspiring religious architecture and artistic treasures. Must-sees include the imposing St Peter’s Basilica – so vast that the Statue of Liberty could fit comfortably under its dome – and the mesmerising frescoes of the Sistine Chapel.

Horrible!
Horrible! We went to the Vatican to see the Sistine Chapel as we didn't buy tickets in advance to visit the basilica (the queue was huge) and we were in no state to visit the museums (I was pregnant and we had our 2.5 yo toddler and a buggy with us). No one told us that being pregnant and carrying a buggy and a toddler is definitely not a good idea as there are tens of thousands of stairs and no elevators. They simply sold us the tickets and let us go despite the fact that we clearly mentioned we only wanted to see the Sistine Chapel (not knowing the only way is by going through each and every museum). At some point, there was a shortcut that we could have used as I simply could not walk any longer, but one of the guards did not allow us to use it saying it's for groups only, despite explaining that I was pregnant and I could not walk. Staff in Rome is general was very rude.

We went there just to see the Sistine chapel.
We went there just to see the Sistine chapel. We bought the tickets and enter the Vatican but no one told us we had to walk 8Kms, crossing several galeries and some number of museums to reach the chapel. We won't return and we will advise friends about this. If they visitors on the other museums they should think about other strategies, with this one the number of tourists will fade...

We booked an early morning tour 8.00am and the museum was still disappointingly overcrowded. It was really hard to enjoy the magnificence of the artwork and architecture when you can't linger and take in the beauty.
I really don't know how this issue is going to be addressed. You can't stop people wanting to witness the wonder that is the Vatican.
All I can advise is be prepared for the crowds and be patient and considerate.

It's hard to give this a mediocre review, as there were breathtaking things to see, but it felt like a cattle mart. It wasn't clear how to navigate the vastness of the museums and there were people pushing in all directions. The Sistine Chapel was noisy and lacking any kind of ambience (I feel for Michelangelo's suffering painting these ceilings that see gawking but no worship of the deity they're meant to point to). Please don't give the Rome Tourist Card by Tiqets a moment's glance. They charged us 3x more than standard entry, with no added benefit. Do consider a tour if you can, it'll ensure you see the highlights and find out some memorable stuff along the way.

The Catholic church is out to make every dime it can. You can't even get into the museum gift shop without an ticket that gives you access to a long line. If you want to go get a skip the line ticket.
Everything is great! I highly recommend it! One of the best apartments in Rome. It’s clean and has everything you need. Very close to the Vatican. The hosts are very friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with anything. Choosing these apartments will be the best decision in Rome!
Staff friendly 24hrs desk check is was easy and no extra cost to check after 11pm like some hotels clean and comfortable did 2 nights in Rome but was hardly in the room but it was a nice hotel to sleep and get ready location was perfect 2 stops
On metro to Colosseum and 10 mins on the metro to the Vatican did everything in one day and the location was just perfect to make that happen and easy to get train back to airport from the hotel
Nice large apartments, everything you need for life is there, in the very center of Rome near the Vatican. I recommend it. Kind and polite hosts, always help with various questions and problems.
It is a beautiful apartment with everything we needed. The photos do make the place look a bit bigger than it really is, but it served it's purpose just fine.
The location is absolutely incredible - the nice city vibe is just out the door and the Vatican is around the corner.
Possibly the best accommodation I've stayed in while traveling in Italy. Would absolutely recommend.
Great apartment that was more spacious than it appeared in photos. Extremely comfortable beds. Plenty of amenities to make the stay comfortable. Close walking distance to the Vatican and several bus lines that go into downtown Rome. We go to Rome frequently and would definitely stay again and recommend it to others. Our 2 kids had their own beds in the living room area, and we slept in the bedroom. The metal blackout shades made it easy to sleep, and it's in a quiet neighborhood.
Riccardo has been very responsive and helpful during my stay. The apartment is located 5 mins walk to the vatican museums, with bus stops, a metro stop, tons of stores and restaurants nearby. You can grab a bite as early as 7am and as late as 10pm. More importantly, you can see the world's most famous dome by your window.
The apartment itself is clean, safe and well kept. There is daily housekeeping. Also, you can do self check-in, and there is plenty of space for luggage storage. Will definitely stay again if I were to come back to Rome.
The hotel location is great.10 minutes to the metro station Lepanto. There are many busses as well, using Google maps was useful for this purpose. The area is very safe and only 3 minutes to the nearest supermarket opposite the hotel. Nice restaurant are 10 minutes away and in 10 minutes you are as well in the Vatican city. Room, housekeeping, reception was very good. The breakfast is really great:pancakes, scrambled eggs, fruits, ham, cheese, cakes. Our stay was very enjoyable, so we will come again when visiting Rome.
Nice and cosy apartment in the heart of Rome close to the Vatican.
Very nice location and Angelo did his best to have a perfect stay, he's very helpful.
B&B apartments - very good standard and location (between the Vatican City and the main monuments of Rome - di Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, etc.). Most of these places can be reached on foot in 15-20 min.
Kind and very helpful staff, who will also how to explore Rome.
Breakfast modest, Italian style - but you can eat well.
Room equipped with a comfortable bed, refrigerator and air conditioning. Very neat bathroom (although you have to wait a little for hot water). Overall, I would recommend.
The apartment is comfortable for a stay a few nights in Rome, with everything you need. Even though it is a bit small, it has everything, is clean, and cozy. The location is very good, with access to bus and nearby metro, as well as being located at walking distance to the Vatican City.

check out the hotels for your ideal location, you get very good value for money from smaller hotels/ bed and breakfast/ guest houses etc. Use the hop on hop off buses, buy tickets to the main tourist attractions in advance, unless you like to wait in line a lot! Vatican is manic, I went in March and it was starting to get busy, I can imagine it would be very hot and uncomfortable in the height of the season.

If you take the time to go through the streets north of the Vatican you can find many small stores where the locals shop. As well as the popular brands and designer labels these streets are full of market stalls with lots of bargains and lovely small deli's and cafes that sell many wonderful local goodies. Great restaurants in this area too, well worth spending a few hours of the day finding a treasure or two.

Get a 48-hour pass on one of the "hop on, hop off"...
Get a 48-hour pass on one of the "hop on, hop off" sightseeing bus services. Many of them also offer "skip the line" tickets for certain sights. These tickets are worth every cent. There are tourists waiting in long lines everywhere, which will waste a lot of your time and energy. Rome is an intense tourist destination with much to see. Plan well, do research and be prepared to spend extra on special services. You will need at least 5 days to a week to truly see most of the major landmarks. Just the Vatican Museum offers so much that you could easily spend 3 days inside and still not truly see most of it.

As it's Rome there will always be tourists everywhere but DO NOT go with any tour group guaranteeing to skip lines, the queues are never as bad as they look. We were told a "5 hour queue for Vatican and the Sistine chapel" but if we joined a tour we can go straight in...for a €50 fee. We opted out and queued and were in and out of the Vatican, Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel within 2.5 hours all for a quarter of the price (student and EU citizen discounts). The same goes for the colosseum. Go at your own pace and avoid the scammers. The hotel had basic tourist maps which were perfect and we easily found our way. But we did find there were always less people between 12-1 as they had gone to find food by then.

The Colisseum and the Vatican are probably the main attractions, but there are dozens of monuments, museums, gallaries, fountains and churches that all offer a piece of ancient or modern history. Even the roads and walls and buildings seem to tell a story about one of the most preserved ancient cities in the world.
