What was once a mighty hilltop fortress is now a collection of ruins, overgrown by grass and flowers. Originally built by the Greeks in around 400 BC, Castello Eurialo was the height of military hardware, with towers for mounted catapults and deliberately confusing tunnels and corridors just inside the inner walls to wrong-foot invading soldiers. It’s actually aged remarkably well, with many of the walls and tunnels still more or less intact.
