Really pleased I booked this hotel.
It’s in a great location almost equally distanced from the river and city park on a main thoroughfare (Oktogon square is like the Piccadilly circus of Budapest). This meant a lot of areas were well within walking distance as were a wide selection of restaurants.
Every time we entered the hotel lobby we were not just greeted with impressive air con (it was 35 degrees outside) and the grandeur of the building but also a sense of calm. All the staff on reception were helpful and spoke excellent English (we only managed the very basics in Hungarian but glad we tried).
Our superior balcony room was on an upper floor which sat above the glass ceiling of the lobby. Ok it wasn’t a panoramic city view but it was nice to have some outdoor space. We never managed to work out how (or if it was even possible) to turn the balcony lights off, so were glad the curtains did a decent job. The room and bathroom whilst not massive had everything we needed including mini fridge.
We booked Hop on Hop off bus tickets through the reception desk. I didn’t rate the buses, but we got complimentary champagne and macarons in our room which were fantastic!
Breakfast was quite the spread and served until 10.30, but they stick to that time so don’t hang about. I particularly enjoyed the fruit strudels, pastries and cakes. Also there’s a filtered water machine so you can top up your own water bottles for the day.
We enjoyed our time in Budapest and were surprised that it felt such a safe city to walk about both day and night.

Breakfast was modest but offered all you needed. The apartment was huge, fully equipped, and exceedingly comfortable. The location is superb, just a block away from the metro. we had a cozy and pleasant stay at Maimason. We will be back, for sure!

The receptionist who checked us in was very kind!
The room was perfect, it had everything we needed for our short stay.
They also gave us a free bottle of hungarian prosecco for my boyfriend's birthday!

The economic apartment consists of two connected rooms. Ceiling is high (about 5 metres). In one room the bed is located at the loft and in the other room one bed is also at the loft and the other one is just below it. The shower and the toilet are in separate rooms, where the toilet is located in the corridor and the shower is next to the larger room. Also, there is a decent equiped kitchenette. The location is perfect, very close to the Heros Square and metro line M1. The breakfast was great (open buffet). There is no private parking but there is a pay parking not far away, for a very reasonable price (3000 HUF per day).

Well staged, and an uncomfortable look at Hungary's 20th Century history, from the fall of the Austro-Hungarian empire in 1918, to the fall of Communism in 1989.
Some uncomfortable truths about what the Hungarians did to each other there too and some lessons there...

It says it is free for over 7o year olds but that doesn't apply to Brits and more! You need the audio to appreciate the full horror of ther place. We used the leaflets at the entrance to each floor to help us understand what went on here, and in Hungary

It is really impressive and I suggest to visit it only if you are not easily impressionable. When I visited it, there were some instances that caused some people around me strong emotional responses, some of them burst into tears while some wanted to leave earlier.

Not really a place to fill you with joy and happiness, but well worth a visit to explore some dark times for the country in the not-so-distant past. Worth checking the website for opening times though as I got caught out on my first attempt to visit because it is closed on Mondays. You can get there using public transport but it's an easy enough walk from the city centre, with some nice coffee shops on the way.
