Set in 2 acres of tranquil wooded gardens. The charming rooms have TVs and tea and coffee facilities, and many have breathtaking views of the valley and fells.

A very comfortable stay, with well-appointed rooms, excellent food, and charming and courteous staff. We enjoyed the seclusion of the hotel and its position for walking. Having said that, it was easy to get about (e.g., to Keswick and Carlisle) by car.

Derwentwater

This pretty trail takes in the quiet majesty of Derwentwater, the ‘Queen of the Lakes’. Ten miles of well-marked paths loop around its still shoreline, leading you past age-old forests and rugged fells. For picture-postcard views, head to Friar’s Crag and look out across the lake towards the spiny ridge of Cat Bells.

Great location very near the Derwentwater Lakeside as well as town centre. Good car parking at rear ( front parking road was closed with repairs). Excellent food at breakfast with plenty of choice including wide gluten free options. Staff very helpful and caring with enough on duty to cover a full hotel so little waiting. Husbands expensive bike had a locked up facility overnight. Easy access to it when needed. The staff attitude is to be praised as could not be more positive and helpful.

The location was wonderful. You could walk directly from the hotel garden down to the edge of Derwentwater, the view towards the mountains was lovely too. We had a superior apartment which was very spacious, I liked that the kitchen was separate to the bedroom. Parking was free and there was no problem parking near the building. This is a great base for walking in the area or visiting local towns.
