Everything! This is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. Beautifully designed with a real modern flair that stands it apart from the run of the mill corporate feel of so many hotels. Spotlessly clean and the attention to detail is outstanding. From lovely glass tumblers in the room as opposed to the ubiquitous plastic water bottle, to the drinks station on each floor where you can help yourself to tea, coffee, fruits and on tap sparkling or still water which you can decant into a glass carafe and take into your room. The breakfast choice is wide and delicious. Recommend the scrambled eggs which are so easy to get wrong in a hotel- superb! The staff are polite, welcoming and efficient. The hotel also provides a free travel card for use on all public transport in Basel during your stay. All in all, a must stay hotel.

Second time staying at Spalentor. The hotel is on a busy junction so you'd hear trams, honks and sirens, but with windows closed it's fairly quiet for a good night sleep. Rooms are very spacious, all equipment is modern, and it feels like the owners are taking care of the place and guests.
The hotel is located next to the Old City Gate of Spalentor and the Botanical Garden of the University of Basel, with excellent scenery and good security. The staff's service is very good. Although the hotel is not big, the service is definitely four-star.
Spacious and clean room, very helpful and friendly staff. Good breakfast. Near to Botanic Garden, Spalentor Gate, and Bus stop, less than a minute walk. Basel City Pass provided is a bonus. The small yellow toy duck gift is a surprise :)
Very convenient to hotel via Bus 30 from Basel Bahnhof, this bus platform is just in front of Bahnhof. Same platform to take Bus 50 to Airport.
The location was good, near bus route etc. Also near the beautiful Spalentor old gate. I loved that street with all the interesting shop windows. Flat was roomy and well appointed.
I recommend with the utmost confidence both the location and especially the staff, from the reception staff, to the breakfast staff, as well as the cleaning staff, extraordinary, communicative people. The hotel is extremely clean, the room extremely spacious. It is worth a stay in Basel with accommodation at Hotel Spalentor - Ihr sympathisches Stadthotel. I recommend with confidence!
The location is good, close to the old town and the University of Basel. We can see the old town gate Spalentor outside the room window. It's easy to walk to the main attractions in the old town or take the tram. The reception staff are very welcoming and the hotel provides free water and fruit at the counter, as well as luggage storage services. The hotel takes its guests very seriously. The room was bright, clean, quiet and comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious, we were very satisfied.

Location was excellent directly opposite the Spalentor gateway to the old town. We could walk easily to the historic sites but with the free Basel card provided by the hotel occasionally took advantage of the cost free travel on the trams with the stops located nearby. Plenty of first class restaurants within easy walking distance. Spacious quiet bedroom, comfy bed and with ideal ensuite. Good value breakfast.
