Nestled along the rocky shoreline of the Monterey Peninsula, this historic oceanfront inn offers charming accommodations along with personalised services and thoughtful amenities, and is close to popular area attractions. This was the best hotel we stayed in our 10 days in California. The most confortable bed and linen I ever slept in. Worst every penny: magical garden, great views, great staff. It has a lot of rules around and remind me of begging at my grandmother house (in a good way). Fresh flowers in living room decorated with style. A truely special place

Wonderful colonial style inn right next to the beach behind the sand dunes. Everything is extremely nice and well organised, rooms were spotless clean, beds comfortable. We loved our fireplace and we enjoyed the common room even more. Everything is sailing/shipping themed, we loved it so much.

Love this Inn! Front desk check in was effortless, and staff was gentle.
The Portola Inn is centrally located in Monterey very close to the water and the Pier. Hotel and Room were very clean, the staff was very professional and friendly. We had a comfortable stay and the parking was safe. It is also possible to exit the Hotel into a car free zone, which is great when traveling with younger children. We stayed during low season, so we received a good rate. During peak summer season, I would not be satisfied with the value for money.
All the people who worked there were friendly and helpful. It's a lovely family run business. I very much appreciated that they cooked a special gluten free French toast for me. It wasn't good, but that might be because the G/F bread they used wasn't good. But it was nice that they offered it. The room was cozy and the inn was a short walk to the water and a nice walk to restaurants.

The inn was close to my festival and other fun places, plus it had a very clean and peaceful environment. The room is clean and spotless when you arrive and spacious for what you ask for.

Great location, quaint historic inn, right across the street from the ocean. You can hear the ocean from the front porch. The breakfast was nice, and the breakfast room is brilliant - huge windows overlooking the ocean.
Wasnt sure what to expect as the pictures I saw suggested one thing (cheap for the area and time, and cheap for a reason) but boy was I wrong (or perhaps the pictures I saw were wrong). So imagine this inn / hotel as a collection of cabins spread out with gardens, outdoor yard to sit out in the evening, and peaceful n quiet. The cabin itself is rustic in style (it seems to be a style for this area) but so comfortable and more personalable than a hotel. Would definitely not hesitate to recommend this place!
