The Hoptimist, hotel in Darlington

Set in Stockton-on-Tees and with Stadium of Light reachable within 45 km, The Hoptimist offers a garden, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi and a bar. You can play darts at the inn.

I didn’t take breakfast as I had to leave early. I thought that the room was small and the furnishings were basic and a bit worn. However, everything was spotlessly clean including towels and bed linen, the bed was comfortable and the shared toilet and shower facilities were ample, spacious and, again, very clean. Overall I’d say that, given the price, I got great value for money.

An easy stroll from the station, the Houndgate Townhouse is ideally located. The room was small but had everything I needed, was spotlessly clean and a bed I could have slept in for days. The breakfast was off the charts, so, so good. Would definitely come back and try dinner next time. Strongly recommend.

The property was immaculate. The room was very spacious and comfortable. We ate dinner there too and both it and the included breakfast the following day were delicious. The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly and we were able to charge our EV for free overnight making our trip totally relaxed and hassle free.

Hands down the easiest place to stay for Croft circuit - it's about a 2 minute drive away. Breakfast from 7am on weekdays for early starts. Rooms comfortable and great value for money. Breakfast is great and the Sunday lunch roast dinners (best to book - can be very busy) are fantastic and absolutely enormous - highly recommended.

Wonderful period property in a central location. The rooms are so spacious and clean with very comfortable beds. Both dinner and breakfast that we had in the hotel’s Saltfish restaurant were amazing. The thing that really sets this hotel apart is just how friendly and welcoming are the staff.

Lovely Roman fort and bridge ruins in the village - worth a visit.. Nice river walk. Pretty setting. Although heavy traffic! Coaching inn dating back to 1500 - which is still in the process of being restored - bit by bit! It looks like a slow project but what has been finished is nicely done. Bar area rustic and lovely. Upstairs for rooms. Beautifully furnished, clean and very comfortable bed.
