Bretteville-sur-Odon
Located 5 km south-west of Caen, this Hotel Ibis is entirely air conditioned and offers modern rooms. It is easily accessible via the A84 motorway, exit 9, 900 metres away.
All of the rooms at the Hôtel Ibis Caen Porte De Bretagne are equipped with a TV, a radio and a telephone. They each have a private bathroom with shower.
The room was bigger than I expect for an Ibis. There is a restaurant attached, with McDonald's next door, lots of options for meals. The bathroom made me think of a spaceship, which was fun; the shower was good. The public area on the main floor was comfortable, and they would get you coffee or tea if you asked. Parking was plentiful. Public transportation is not far and made it very easy to get into town.
The second night, the restaurant was changing their menu, and we were invited to taste-test everything for free. It was excellent, and an example of how friendly and accommodating they are.
Caen
The IBIS Port de plaisance is located in the centre of Caen, just 750 metres from the Château de Caen and 350 metres from the Church of Saint-Pierre. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi internet access and air-conditioned guest rooms. We have booked 4 Ibis and this one was the best
Hérouville-Saint-Clair
The ibis Herouville is located in Caen, 15 km from Caen Carpiquet airport and 5 km from the Parc des Expositions. It offers free Wi-Fi, free parking and 24-hour snack service.
The double and triple-sized rooms are en suite and have satellite and cable TV. Hairdryers are available at reception.
It was a beautiful, quiet location.

The room was clean, modern and functional - but of budget hotel standard. It is a functional budget hotel in the outskirts of Caen. I found that the standard of the Ace Hotel was better than that of Ibis Hotels, which I also used twice on my short Normandy vacation.
Okay, so it was an Ibis Budget. Nothing to write home about, but I expected this when I made the booking. Overall the hotel was fine. The room was fairly comfortable and clean, the location was adequate for what I needed, and only a 10 minute drive into the centre.
Ibis Budget hotels are inexpensive and offer pretty pared down facilities. With that in mind, the showers had copious hot water, the rooms were clean and the breakfast nicely presented with fresh bread. The staff were exceptional.
Regular Ibis budget and accessible for people coming by train
