Company information

We live in such a beautiful area, with tall trees showing their Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer foliage, and having bought the property with four half renovated stables to guest cottages, we decided to complete the renovation and share it with others. We aim to give our guests space to be able to be alone and come and go as they please. It is not always possible to give a personal welcome but we do like to welcome you and show you to your cottage and parking otherwise we do so through communicating via Whatsapp or sms, as you prefer. We do hope that our guests each know that they are warmly welcomed and that they enjoy their stay. When we bought the property seven years ago, the cottages were in varying states of disrepair. We wondered if we should knock down or renovate! And renovate we did - a team undertaking. Besides the linen which is all new, we enjoyed browsing in second hand shops and auctions to source furnishings that would add interest and warmth and a feeling of home. Frank and I enjoy mountain biking and there are lots of nearby trails. Also hiking and if you are bold you can take a hike across the vlei to Piggly Wiggly, have some breakfast and hike back.

Property information

Wild Hare self-catering cottages are on a peaceful small holding in the heart of the Midlands Meander, not far from the N3, on the Curry's Post/ Lions River Road. You wouldn't know that the cottages are even there until you crest the top of the drive. Three of the cottages (Aloe, Lavender Garden & Nguni) are ideal for couples visiting the Midlands and the fourth cottage, with a main en suite has an added feature of a loft bedroom with twin three-quarter beds (loft as in room under the roof) and small bathroom with a view over the hills, accessed by climbing wooden stairs, and is best suited for young school going or young adults, family of four, or friends. We aim to provide comfortable beds with cotton sheets and thick cotton towels and a simple eclectically decorated open plan living kitchen area. Each cottage has a wood burner and tv with all the Dstv sports channels. In winter there are electric blankets. In summer you can enjoy the outdoor furniture and weber braai and enjoy your sundowners as you take in the wooded view and bushbuck and hare. If you are a couple wanting a weekend or a few days getaway, surrounded by all the things that the Midlands has to offer, then you will enjoy staying in our self-catering cottages. Besides the self-catering cottage and the space around it - we do not provide entertainment - as it is all abundantly out there on the Meander.

Neighbourhood information

We are in the heart of the Midlands Meander, on the Lions River / Curry's Post district road surrounded by farmland and plantations offering good mountain biking as well as many restaurants and wedding venues - 5km from Nelson Mandela monument, 5km from Piggly Wiggly, 2.5km from N3 highway, 10km from Midmar entrance. Guests love that we are not far from the N3 highway and yet are so peaceful and so close to so many attractions. Visit Taste Buds Farms Stall and restaurant or Humphreys of Hebron, both a short way up the Dargle road, walk to River View at The Trading Post for a simple meal and sit next to the rushing Lions River. Barn Owl near Ground Cover leather shoes and bags, Mulberry Hill and Fables a little further on as well as Terbadore for excellent coffee at Curry's Post. Walk to Abingdon wine estate for lunch. Or have a meal at Caversham Mill and visit the Ardmore ceramic studio next door. Milestone Forest walk, towards La Lampara, is a beautiful little hiking trail, 19km away, through indigenous forest - very steep in places and slippery in wet weather so take hiking sticks. All these places can be accessed through back roads offering beautiful scenic drives. Some of these places do charge a day fee. Visit Taste Buds Farms Stall and restaurant or Humphreys of Hebron, both a short way up the Dargle road, walk to River View at The Trading Post for a simple meal and sit next to the rushing Lions River. Further away is the Karkloof Canopy tours and Karkloof mountain bike trails - 27km and 22km respectively - hiking and running there too.
