Welcome to THE PHOEBE, named after Phoebe Hearst who was instrumental in building the community of Lead (pronounced LEED). This mountainside home features ample outdoor living space and breathtaking views. Enjoy the crackle of the cozy fireplace as you curl up on the couch (and enjoy the fast wifi!), or spend your time exploring all that Lead and the Black Hills have to offer! Guests are welcome to use the large garage and abundant additional parking space as well as the washer & dryer.

I am originally from Mitchell, South Dakota. After bouncing around from city to city, I moved to Nashville, TN, where I spent most of my adult life and met my husband, Joel. He grew up in northwestern Iowa and is a graduate of Northern Illinois University near Chicago. We currently spend most of our time between the Black Hills in South Dakota, Nashville, and Tulum, Mexico! If you’re joining us in the Black Hills, please check out our bourbon company, West River Whiskey Co! If you’re staying with us in Tulum, we recommend the local tequila ;) Typically, check-in and check-out is done without host involvement; however, if guests prefer for us to meet them, we are available and living close by.

You will be staying in a neighborhood across the street from the Homestake Mine which was, at one time, the largest gold mine in the Western Hemisphere. This neighborhood is situated on the side of a hill, so the roads can be steep. Don't worry, other drivers are cautious! When there's snow, the city usually clears the streets very quickly and thoroughly.
