I feel it's important to set expectations. Smitty's Hideaway is not for everyone. I am 12 miles from 29 Palms, in a quiet rural area called Wonder Valley. Lots of creosote bushes and small mountains nearby. The last 2 miles to the cabin are on dirt roads maintained by the county and can be easily driven with a regular 2-wheel drive vehicle. I do it every day. Just make sure to follow my specific driving instructions and do not blindly follow your GPS navigator. Unplug. Enjoy the quiet, open space of Wonder Valley. Quiet. Perfect for couples or single travelers. The room has a very comfortable queen size bed, super soft towels, and soft water on tap. A mini-split AC/heating unit keeps the room warm in the winter and cool in the blazing heat of the summer. It has a shaded back porch with a porch swing and hammock. Kuerig coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge toaster pastries and snacks. Flat screen TV with built-in DVD player and a good selection of DVDs. CD player with a selection of jazz CDs. No wifi, but Verizon and T -Mobile have good reception. It's a 15-minute drive to Joshua Tree National Park or to Twentynine Palms to get gas or food. I do my best to be a great host, and I am proud to provide a comfortable, relaxing experience for my guests.
