General Bertrand and his family accompanied Napoleon to St Helena in 1815 and this house was built in 1816 for the family. This property adjoined the Longwood estate allowing Napoleon to visit the family. It was the family home until Napoleon’s death in 1821. Two hundred years after it was built, this Grade One listed heritage property has been renovated to provide outstanding guest accommodation with three ensuite double bedrooms.
We returned to St Helena in 2022 and were looking to take on a B&B for tourists looking to holiday in the heart of the Island. It is a beautiful and peaceful setting and Bertrand's cottage is intertwined with the cultural and military history of the Island. We are excited to be able to share this with our guests. We also operate a tearoom/cafe on the premises on the weekend.
Bertrand’s Cottage is located in the community of Longwood, five miles from Jamestown and two miles from St Helena Airport. It is the neighbouring property to Longwood house (Napoleon's residence whilst on Island). It is 200 yards from St Helena Golf Club as well as the local supermarket.
