Thomas
This building is an old fish factory where they used to produce "clipfish" or better known as "bacalao" (norsk: klippfisk) until 1970's. Now it has been restored into this guesthouse with a rough and rustic style that makes it one of a kind, here you can find details of old times. Here you can hear the wind blowing and the movement of the ocean which makes this place peaceful. If you get to meet Thomas, the owner, don't hesitate to ask him about the history of the place, you will hear a very interesting story about the old days when people traded bacalao. Bacalao came to Norway in the late 1680's, specially in this region. People is still producing bacalao nowadays in this area and is very common product that you should definitely try.
Host Thomas: A very nice guy willing to give the guests a friendly welcome and a helping hand when needed, You can always find him with a smile upon his face, you can get from him that kind of confidence and warming welcome that makes Sveggvika Guesthouse one of a kind. Thomas can help you with information about WW2, Viking and fish history as it is one of his favorite hobbies.
Sveggvika has many history locations from WW2, specially the bunkers in Kristiansund 10 min away. The Bacalao (salt modified and dried on the rocks nor.: "klippfisk") export started in the district of Sveggvika. Ancient Viking history points to be visited. Several hiking trips from very easy to more advanced. Bring your bicycle and cycle around the three small fish villages next to Sveggvika. Or visit "mini-Lofoten" out on the islands which are connected with bridges and enjoy the beautiful ocean view and peace. Out on these islands you will also find the fish factories that still producing stockfish and bacalao today. This is the next best sightseeing after the Atlantic Road that is world famous must see. The waterpark in Kristiansund is only 10 minutes away, a perfect spot for kids and adults. Storm-watching from superior apartment when the harsh Atlantic ocean fiercely beating on the shallow rocks in the bay of Sveggvika.
