Il Molino Maufet is a Guesthouse & a Museum born on the ashes of an ancient water mill from the 1100s. The structure is located in the characteristic village of Villatico, a hamlet of Colico (Lecco) in a hilly and panoramic position 10 minutes walk from the centre. We are located at the top of the northern branch of Lake Como and a few steps from the Sentiero del Viandante; from here you can quickly reach Switzerland, Valchiavenna and Valtellina. The six accommodations (Il Granaio, Casa Amalia, Alle Macine, La Volta, Il Fienile and La Roggia) have been created from the old living spaces and renovated in a sustainable way, reusing and relocating, where possible, the original materials, and adopting intelligent technologies for energy saving. At guests' disposal, in addition to the private outdoor spaces, there is also a common equipped garden full of fruit trees of 4,000 square meters. Mount Legnone watches over them all, which, with its 2,609 meters, is the highest peak in the western sector of the Orobie Alps and hosts, at 750 meters, the Valorga, the lowest snowfield in Europe. In addition to the thrill of sleeping in an old mill with a panoramic view of the lake and the mountains, where green and blue dominate as far as the eye can see, we offer all our passion for the area, suggesting strategic places, excursions and itineraries anyone who wants to experience Lake Como in an authentic way and as a protagonist. This type of structure, so true and authentic, represents a form of accommodation different from all the others, where the "local" component plays a decisive role and differentiates the Guesthouse from any other tourist property.
There are places that can steal your heart and make you feel obliged not to let them be forgotten .. that become first dream and idea and finally also home .. for us and for all those who want to spend a few days feeling in a special place.. .. a passion disappeared without reason, over time and memories .. that of the miller and his tool, the Mill..
Leaving Colico Piano, the road that in a moment rises towards Villatico immediately gives the pleasant sensation of a journey far in time. The noises, the cars and the bustle of the center no longer seem to belong to that instant and almost suddenly the intense blue of the sky and the lake, the ancient majestic Church of San Bernardino, the old wash house and the narrow Vicolo Mulini bring to our mill. It is said that this interweaving of alleys jealously guarded by the imposing, but reassuring white bell tower surrounded by the mountains, has in itself the hidden seed of the first village of the Commune. Continuous glimpses of houses leaned on old cellars of times blackened with the suggestion of lives and sorts spent on floors of wet earth, smelling of flour and heated only by the family fireplace.
