Property information

The agritourism, I Gelsi di Santa Cristina, originates from an ancient monastery situated in a picturesque valley immersed in the Umbrian countryside, four kilometres from the centre of Gubbio. It takes its name from the church of Santa Cristina, still consecrated and part of the property, and also from the main activities of the monks who lived there over a long period of time, cultivating mulberry trees to feed the silkworms. It was originally a fortified farm owned by the church and the Benedictine convent of St. Peter a Gubbio, the oldest part dates from the fourteenth century, while the lovely chapel dates from the eighteenth century. Over the years the structure has been modified and the surrounding land cleared for farmland; while the mulberry trees of the monks have given way to wheat fields and sunflowers. Two splendid majestic trees remain standing, their branches have seen the centuries go by and still, to this day, they shade the gardens of the house and the small chapel of Santa Cristina.

Gubbio is a town rich in art and, for those wishing to visit it, we organize guided tours by experienced archaeologists who will tell you the history of the area and help you to discover its most striking characteristic. Our agritourism is an excellent starting point for visiting some of the most fascinating places in Umbria, such as Perugia; Assisi; Lake Trasimeno; Via Francigena; Todi and the Frasassi Caves in an itinerary of history, art, but also food and wine specialiaties and pure relaxation. Sports and adventure enthusiasts can find activities that are more congenial to them at the nearby Monte Calvo and Monte Cucco, popular take-off areas for hang gliders and paragliders.The protected area where I Gelsi di Santa Cristina is situated is populated by many wild animals and during excursions it is possible to catch sight of deer, hares, foxes, pheasants and porcupines, as well as numerous species of birds that enliven the air with their singing . You can also visit the neighbouring organic farms, see their farm yard animals and enjoy their many products made using traditional, environmentally friendly methods.
