Niharika, the Old Place is a grand old lady, restored with care: her stairs creak, her doors don't quite close, and her floors have the patina of a hundred years. Outside, the wind rises and trees sway like drunks going home. To the north, the Himalayas beckon as the fireplace warms cold fingers after a walk to the monastery. You could book a floor for yourself or the whole house here, for an economical fare. We offer our guests a complimentary breakfast on arrival or departure. Come and see the Old Place while staying in its new space.
Hi, I'm Rita, the owner of this grand old lady we call Niharika. She's about a hundred years old and has been lovingly restored with a lot of care. We love spoiling our guests too and will welcome you with a basket of goodies. Do you have any preference for a welcome drink on arrival? Some white wine? Or tea or coffee? Or just plain chai? Your selection makes my job that much easier!
Up a quiet side road called Hilltop Road. Past Crookety and just before Albela Boys' Home. Old colonial houses, walks and mountains on view from nooks and crannies sets this place apart. The Roerich centre is nearby. The road past the Army golf course offers views of Kanchanjanga and the eastern Himalayas and on a good winter day, you are likely to see the snow over Bhutan. A walk to the Nature Trail offers views of the Tista and Relli valleys. Explore Chibbo's roads through Kalimpong's old villages. Wade through the bustle of Kalimpong's markets on Wednesday and Saturday and get to know our people. Take trips to nearby Sikkim and Darjeeling - or just loll around if you're looking for a rest. Regular taxis ferry you to and from the town centre within ten minutes.
