Sea, mountains, olive and citrus groves. Sound of the waves, scent of herbs. Villa Lir is a magical retreat. Built by our family as a home perched on the side of a hill overlooking the island of Psira, it feels as if you are literally on top of the world - magical whether you're 8 months, 8 years or somewhere north of both. You approach the house on tracks used by goat keepers and olive farmers for centuries. A haven for families, foodies and anyone who loves being outdoors, it's a base to explore Crete's incredible landscapes and history whatever the season, or just to enjoy the views and the infinity pool. With our two girls in mind, we made it safe for babies and children with specific areas secured to let us relax! Four double rooms with ensuite bathrooms, three with private balcony, give everyone somewhere to escape. For yoga, sun worshipping or just drinking in the view there are three more large terraces. We're surrounded by our landscaped garden with flowering shrubs and olive trees. Tholos beach is 20 minutes walk; sand at one end, pebbles at the other, safe swimming and two bars. All you will hear is the sea. And your friends and family having the best holiday!
In just an hour from Heraklion airport, you'll be at Villa Lir and can take that deep breath and start to relax! Whether that means simply enjoying the house and its garden, poking around the local Minoan ruins, hiking up the spectacular Kavousi gorge, shopping in Agios Nikolaos or heading up the coast to explore local Cretan sights and cuisine, we want you to have the best time possible in this incredible hidden corner of the world. We look forwards to welcoming you!
Villa Lir's surroundings are utterly undeveloped. Walking through olive groves with wild wood anemones and the perfume of orange blossom can easily get to be a habit but within a short drive there are many local places of interest. Kavousi itself has a very well stocked supermarket, a coffee shop/ic cream parlour, lovely local bars and cobbled streets to explore. A little further up the coast the ancient Minoan fishing village of Mochlos boasts fabulous restaurants specialising in fish and Cretan cuisine. On the way there the family run Panoramic restaurant lives up to its name - guests are encouraged to come into the kitchen to look at what's on offer. Irapetra has a busy market on Saturdays and Agios itself is a treasure trove for all sorts from leather goods made on site to a busy marina and gorgeous patisserie. Tholos beach is very much one for locals - you shouldn't miss out on Pietro's souvlaki with Greek salad from April to October - eaten on the jetty with a glass of something cold!
