Pauline is a really friendly character and was very welcoming from the very first exchange of contact details. She has a thorough knowledge of the main places of interest locally and recommended many of our days out such as the nearby Water...

Lovely cosy and comfortable vintage style cottage and the host was a lovely lady who arrived before us to ensure we had a fresh pot of tea and biscuits on arrival - just lovely and homely.

Set in the beautiful Valleys of South Wales, a mere 500 metre walk from The Taff River Trail, and just 15 miles south of Pen-y-Fan, in the The Brecon Beacons, the lovely ’Y Bwthyn Bach’ is a traditional 19th century cottage sitting in a quiet row, down a narrow country lane, with a rear balcony that boasts breathtaking valley views. This little gem has been lovingly restored throughout, with traditional vintage décor and many original features. Enclosed Front Patio Garden: with original Dry Stone Wall and Gate, and a raised step to sit on and clean off your boots. Entrance Hallway: with original flagstone flooring, a rubber floor tray for wet boots and a bench seat/coat rack. Dining/Balcony Room: A Solid Wood Dining Table - where a Traditional Afternoon Tea Tray, will welcome you - for you to either dine in style, or engage each other in the collection of vintage board games, including Texas Hold’em and Monopoly, (we hope to add more in time). French doors lead out on to the pretty balcony, with vintage wicker furniture, where you can sit and take in those panoramic views across the river valley below. Sitting Room: A cosy, quiet space, with an eclectic selection of books for you to lose yourself in; a 19” TV; a Chessboard and Bluetooth speakers, to connect up to your own music. Slate Steps lead down to > Basement Kitchen: breakfast table; coffee pod machine; fridge; electric oven; gas hob; air fryer; microwave; toaster; a slow cooker & all cooking equipment. An old fashioned granny clothes airer to dry your stuff. The pantry is stocked with basic goods, eg porridge; rice; pasta; sugar. Fridge will have basic needs to start you off, eg Fresh milk; eggs; bread & butter. The door from the kitchen leads out to the secure enclosed garden for dogs. First Floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 x Twin 3’ beds & 1 x 4’ small double. Bathroom with shower over bath - Towels/linen provided. Most of my cleaning sprays I make myself, with natural products and essential oils.
Dear Fellow Travellers… We wanted to share our own - very special - corner of The Welsh Valleys with you, to provide a little respite from this crazy old world. By drawing on our vast experience with getaways - both positive and negative - hopefully we’ve thought of almost everything - although if you feel like 5* champagne spa luxury, then sorry, we’re strictly basic, old fashioned peace & quiet - No Groups or hot tub parties here! So if you fancy a little “nostalgia experience”, then you are more than welcome to come and stay in this, our little, “home from home”. We live locally, (10 minutes away) so I like to welcome my guests on arrival and go through all the little quirks of the cottage - cos most folk won’t read through the info folder - but there’s also a Key Safe, just in case I’m not around… Any problems, Pauly’s mobile is on from 8am > 8pm - 7 days a week. A Visitor’s Log is kept - ⭐️ Positives 😱 Negatives - so please feel free to express any concerns you’ve had and we’ll do our very best to improve… I did have one low review left regarding the beds… but everyone has they’re own “firmness” preference and there’s not much I can do about that, I’m afraid… (I sleep like a baby in them all…) There are x 2 Single beds (3’) & a Small Double (4’) All have memory foam toppers and you can choose either sheets & blankets, or duvets… just let me know as soon as you book… Can’t wait to meet all you wonderful lot… but until then, please take care of each other and remember to be kind. Pauly & Dai xx
Quakers Yard is a quaint little hamlet served by some handy amenities, including a village store, Chinese takeaway, and a couple of pubs. Nelson, the nearest town, is 1 mile away, with a shop, chemist, a pizza takeaway, the best chip shop around and pubs etc. You can join The Taff Trail just 550 yards (down “The Gutty”, a steep path) from the cottage, or just drive and park up over the bridge. The Trail is a more than 50 mile walking trail spanning from Brecon to Cardiff. The local valleys are full of history and sites to visit during your stay. Some nearby favourites include Llancaiach Fawr Manor, a living history museum with beautiful gardens. The National Lido of Pontypridd, restored to its 1920’s glory, is an outdoor lido which is definitely worth a dip, if you can secure a ticket. Castell Coch, a fairytale castle with lovely walking trails surrounding it, Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery, which is set in 160 acres of parkland and even has a model railway, or you could visit the real thing at Brecon Mountain Railway, a vintage steam train with picturesque stops in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Whether it’s scenic walks, hikes or bike rides, there’s plenty of idyllic spots to visit, from country parks and mountains to waterfalls and forest trails. Traditional towns and villages to give you a real taste of the valleys, you can even get to the capital city of Cardiff either on the train from Abercynon, or 45 minutes by car!
