Edlingham, a small hamlet six miles southwest of Alnwick, is set in a beautiful Northumberland valley filled with bracken and heather. With Edlingham Castle’s leaning solar tower a striking feature of the surroundings and the impressive five arch Edlingham Railway Viaduct directly visible from The Old School this is an area filled with history. The village is overlooked by Corby Crags which offer splendid views across the Northumberland countryside and the Cheviots. This view was used in the Lord of the Rings trilogy advertising posters. In nearby Alnwick you will find an excellent range of amenities and an eclectic mix of charming specialist shops. Here you can wander the cobbled streets and gift shops around the marketplace, or stop-off at one of the many quaint cafes across the area, including Strawberry Lounge, for a very lovely lunch, cream tea or delicious cake!
