Abbotsbury is a wonderful village which has a lot to offer. The accommodation was ideal for exploring the Dorset coast. Brian and Val were welcoming hosts and the cottage had lots of info and books of local activities.

Val & Brian
A cottage to fall in love with. This 17th Century stone cottage has been renovated with care.Quarry tiled throughout the ground floor comprises of hall, bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom has a bath with shower attachment, hand basin and toilet. The William Morris patterned tiles and fairy lights provide the perfect atmosphere for that long relaxing soak. The kitchen is fully equipped and has an eating area. The window seat and oak beams add to it's charm. An open plan pine staircase leads up to the bedroom on one side and the lounge/diner on the other. The lounge has a sofa which opens into a full sized double bed with sprung mattress, two easy chairs,a wardrobe and tv unit. There is a small library of books on walks, places of interest, local history and natural history. Children's toys/books/dvds are also provided. The dining area accommodates four. The bedroom has two single beds a wardrobe and dressing table. Both the lounge/diner and bedroom look out on to St Catherines's chapel and farmland. The beautiful, terraced garden is accessed by steps and has wonderful panoramic views. The perfect place to relax with a book or glass of wine. Private Parking. 3 star Tourist board approved.
Hello we are your hosts Val & Brian. We first discovered Abbotsbury many years back travelling down from London on an old Vespa scooter before the motorway was built. It took us seven hours and we were frozen solid as it was a late freezing spring and snowing. We won't bore you with the whole story here but suffice to say we fell in love with the place at first sight. The unspoilt rolling farmland down onto Chesil Beach and general atmosphere captivated us and we felt we just had to live here. Despite reactions from friends that we would soon be bored we are still here and enjoying every minute! This is one of the reasons that we love to host and to share Abbotsbury and our holiday cottage with you.
Once a Benedictine monastery Abbotsbury still retains that medieval magic yet has all the amenities for the perfect holiday. Two pubs, tearooms, craft shops, farm shop selling local produce and a village store with post office and cash machine. Abbotsbury Swannery ,Tropical Gardens and Children's Farm are popular attractions. Chesil beach part of the Jurassic Coast is within easy walking distance. Walkers are spoilt for choice with the South West coast path going through Abbotsbury, the Macmillan Way and numerous other routes offering spectacular scenery. Well positioned for Dorset's many places of interest. Monkey World/Dinosaurland/Swanage Railway/Thomas Hardy's Cottage/Lulworth cove and Durdle Door/Corfe Castle/Bovington Tank museum and Tyneham village to name a few. Bridport,Dorchester and Weymouth with it's Marina and sandy beach are 9 miles away. The English are known for their love of gardening and many open theirs to the public on specified days.Compton Acres, Minterne and Kingston Maurward Gardens offer a more structured choice. A cream tea is a must so indulge yourself in one of the many cafes, and restaurants that Dorset has to offer or just sit and watch the world go by .
