The breakfast was fantastic, fruit, honey yogurt, full English and toast. Claire and Laurie were so friendly and helpful which made our stay very relaxing. The position of the property was excellent, close to shops, restaurants and walks.

St.Catherine`s Cottage is an old Victorian school house , oozing character and recently renovated to a very high standard. The double room is light and airy, with TV and tea/coffee making facilities, a mini fridge with fresh milk. The private bathroom has a lovely slipper bath where you can relax by candlelight and use the super-soft towels. Breakfast can range from fruits, yoghurt, cereals, porridge, toast, juice, teas and coffee and a full English breakfast. Weather permitting, breakfast can be served in the owner`s small but pretty garden. Use of the garden at other times is on request and at the owner`s discretion, but every attempt will be made to oblige. The cottage is just off the High Street, down a quiet lane with parking, so an ideal place to stay for the weekend, and amble along the High Street visiting the many quaint shops and galleries.
I am a retired teacher, a musician, who still teaches piano from home. I moved to Long Melford from Chelmsford in 2018 for a life-style change, and have definitely found it! I`m sociable, quiet, tidy and like early mornings, so breakfast early is not a problem! I try to go for a walk every morning, down the lane to the River Stour, where I have watched the otters feeding and swimming, the swans and their new`born cygnets , geese, an egret, a late-to-bed owl and in the evening, the bats! I know the area quite well now and like to help my guests with their day exploring if I can. I enjoy meeting new people and chatting, but also respect people`s privacy. I aim to give my guests a relaxed, homely stay, and try to accommodate people`s needs wherever possible.
Long Melford is one of the 5 Wool Towns in Suffolk, steeped in history and beautiful buildings, some 500 years old. The High Street is one of the longest in Britain, hence the name, and is a pleasantly busy by day, and peaceful by night. The tea shops, galleries, antique shops, pubs and restaurants make it a lovely place to visit and stay. St.Catherine`s Cottage is just off the main street, so within easy walking distance of everything. Other beautiful villages within 5-8 miles are Clare with its castle ruin and Priory, Lavenham with its famous Guildhall, Sudbury - home of Gainsborough hence Gainsborough House and his paintings and Hadleigh, a thriving market town. Wherever you go, the architecture is stunning, the walks are beautiful, the shops are quaint and interesting, people are friendly and the pubs and restaurants offer good home-cooked food at reasonable prices!
