Company information

Hi I’m Mark After travelling the world, I decided to settle down in Suffolk twenty years ago and started my own little business with a beautiful old derelict farm complex, which I converted into six lovely little cottages for people to escape from city life and enjoy the wonderfully rural experience that this area amazingly has, despite it’s close proximity to London. I love what I do and am ‘Hands On’ with welcoming guests to my own six cottages, as well as looking after my Cottage Agency 'The Grove Cottages' that soon developed as other owners came asking me to take on their cottages and give them the same level of personal customer care, attention, and promotion that we are known and appreciated for. I don’t want to be a huge company, I’m very happy to have a small agency where personal involvement is always the priority and where I can pick only places which I love and know inside out to join us. I am always available to answer any questions and above all else I want you to be in a cottage that suits you, so you will become our ambassador. Please do ask me a question about this cottage and I will give you a very honest answer. Best Wishes Mark - The Grove Cottages

Property information

Romney is a comfortable Victorian Village house, with a lovely walled garden to enjoy. It is in the pretty Suffolk Village of Cavendish famous for its pink thatched houses on the village green, the river Stour runs behind the village and there are walks along the river or into the countryside straight from the cottage. There are also two good pubs in the little Village. You enter the cottage from the off-road courtyard, where you can park your car, and through a gate into the pretty back garden. The kitchen breakfast room opens out through French doors onto a glass covered patio where you can enjoy a meal in comfort looking out into this lovely walled ‘Cottage’ garden. Beyond the kitchen there is a cosy little dining room with many original Victorian features including a hidden ‘cupboard’ staircase The dining room leads through to a very comfortable sitting room with a lovely open log fire. Stairs lead up to the 3 bedrooms and bathroom; typical of a Victorian cottage, these stairs are quite steep so take care. Upstairs there is a large double bedroom, a small single bedroom and a tight double bedroom overlooking the garden. The bathroom has a bath with a shower fixed above it. Up to 2 Pets are welcome: Banned Dogs: Please also note that if you are considering bringing a banned dog breed, speak to us first. There is a 20 Pound charge per pet for up to 7 nights. Please note that cottage owners cannot accept pets that have not been paid for, so please make sure that you have paid for your pet before arrival. Special Reduced rate for 2 guests using just one bedroom outside High Season. Please note that if you put in the number of guests as 2 then it is assumed you will only require one bedroom. If you want to use 2 bedrooms then you should put in the number of guests as 3, because outside High Season the larger cottages will have a reduced rate for 2 guests using only one bedroom reflecting the saving made on laundry and cleaning.

Neighbourhood information

The village of Cavendish is particularly pretty with a beautiful Village Green captured by many painters and photographers because of its perfectly placed Suffolk Pink cottages and historic church. Cavendish has a lovely pub on the picturesce Village green: The Five Bells. There is a community shop, a tearoom and there is the excellent Willow Tree Farm Shop with a cafe less than a mile away. There are very pretty walks and cycle rides straight from the Cottage. From Cavendish down to Flatford Mill along the River Stour is what is known as Constable Country and is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pretty little hamlets and villages dot the countryside, joined by often single lane roads that meander round the hills and vales of the local area. The next biggish village is Clare with its castle and antique warehouse and pretty riverside walks, and in the other direction is Long Melford famed for having the longest Medieval High Street in England. Long Melford is a great place to visit, full of interesting shops and galleries, antique warehouses and two stately Homes: Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall both of which have many fascinating events or are open to the public and Three outstanding restaurants: Scutchers, The Black Lion and The Swan.
