Property information

Take a break and unwind at this peaceful cottage in the countryside. Richards Castle is on the border of Shropshire and Herefordshire, close enough to the market town of Ludlow to enjoy the lively community feel, busy markets, events and festivals that are held throughout the year. Surrounded by the beautiful countryside of south Shropshire and the Welsh Marches, the cottage is an excellent base for walking, cycling, as well as exploring the rest of Shropshire. Or just sitting, relaxing, and taking in the views. From the cottage garden, you will enter the cottage via the open-plan conservatory/kitchen. This is a great space to sit, relax and take in the views of the Shropshire Hills. Walk through the conservatory to our compact galley kitchen, with hob, oven, and fridge/freezer -please note we do not have a microwave, as we are short on worktop space to store it. The kitchen leads through to the lounge. For the colder months, we have a log burner, which you are welcome to use. The bathroom is downstairs with a shower over the bath. Upstairs there are two compact bedrooms both with double beds. There is an enclosed garden to enjoy in the warmer months. We are a small, cosy cottage - please note some of the areas of the property are old. The cottage is small and can accommodate two couples, though do keep in mind that some people may find it tight. Strictly No Commercial Vehicles - No Vans, Caravans or Motorhomes at this property, limited parking for medium 2 cars only. Important: We are committed to protecting our properties which is why we've partnered with Know Your Guest, the leading vacation rental guest-screening provider. Please note that before your booking begins, you will need to verify your details and ID through Know Your Guest. You will also be given the choice between paying a refundable deposit or buying a non-refundable damage waiver. We suggest you buy the damage waiver as this protects you in case you cause accidental damage during a booking.

Neighbourhood information

Richards Castle is a small friendly village with a local pub and ancient roots. The castle predates William the Conquerer and is possibly the oldest stone castle in England. It defended the borders and has views across the Welsh Marches towards the Brecon Beacons and the Black mountains. Its neighbour, the beautiful medieval church, is managed by the historical church's preservation trust. The cottage is just under 4 miles from Ludlow with its markets and food and arts festivals, and its range of excellent restaurants and pubs. It is just five minutes drive to the beautiful Mortimer Forest with walking, cycling and horse riding trails. Also within easy reach are the antiques centre of Leominster, the national trust houses and parkland at Croft Castle and Berrington Hall and the English Heritage sites at Witley Court and Stokesay Castle. The beautiful Carding Mill Valley is a short drive away and Hay on Wye with its festival and famous bookshops just half an hour. The village is surrounded by footpaths and the cottage has a wide range of maps, walks and leaflets on all of these and other interesting local places - from cider mills to the Olympics at Much Wenlock
