Pail End has been designed to make stays in the Peak District easy and comfortable: easy parking just outside, everything you should need inside (and nothing you don't need), cleaned to a high standard, owner next-door should you need anything. Some nice, fairly easy walking from the door; more adventurous walking a bit farther away; interesting towns to visit within 15 miles (Ashbourne, Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Wirksworth, Belper); lots of history especially industrial archaeology (mills and mines etc); also Carsington Water which guests love to visit/walk around. There is a good selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes to visit, as well as two pubs in the village which both serve food.
Richard works locally as a gardener (married to Kathy who is a mental health social worker). He has been running Pail End for nine years, and can share local knowledge about walks, real ale pubs, history, and landscape archaeology, especially lead mining history.
Medium-size village (600 residents) on south-facing slope on southern edge of limestone Peak District, about 3 miles from the edge of the National Park. Village is made predominantly of stone-built houses, many of which are listed. Pail End is in a conservation area, and is attached to the owner's 18th century house. Parking for Pail End is in the drive, and roadside parking throughout most of Brassington is unrestricted. Regular buses during the day go to Matlock, Ashbourne, and Wirksworth. Buses are fewer during the evening.
