This quaint Grade II Listed period Cottage is situated in the heart of the pretty North Yorkshire Village of Stillington, which lies on the edge of the Howardian Hills AONB and just 10 miles from the cathedral city of York. Built in 1742 it preserves many of its original features, maintaining its quaint charm. As soon as you walk through the door you feel a traditional and cosy ambience, with a multi fuel stove and original beams. Ideal for couples seeking a relaxed escape to the country or small families wishing to explore the hidden gems of North Yorkshire. May Cottage can be booked for up to 3 guests, with a stylish double bedroom and separate single room, with lovely views across open countryside. Children of all ages are welcome (travel cot available) and accepts 1-2 dogs (for a small additional fee).

From May Cottage you can explore both The Howardian Hills and also the neighbouring North York Moors National Park. Both offer excellent walking routes for seasoned ramblers and those looking for a more sedate meander alike. It’s also a perfect place for a cycling holiday with miles upon miles of perfect climbs and descents awaiting your discovery with jaw-dropping views to make the climbs worth the burn! There are many historical attractions nearby including Castle Howard, Rievaulx Abbey and Byland Abbey and a castle in the attractive market town of Helmsley. Positioned just 10 miles north of the City of York you are also perfectly placed to head into the City to experience the culture of the Minster, museums, galleries and the ancient City walls. Or if your passion is food, you’ll find many excellent independent bars and restaurants to discover. York is also a city brimming with history and culture. Take a walk along the castle walls or head to York Minster for some truly jaw dropping architecture, followed with a wander around the cobbled streets with beautiful architecture to admire and independent boutiques to peruse. Stillington itself has a wonderful village run Post Office/shop, several high-quality pubs, Indian restaurant, fish and chip shop, hairdressers, sports and social club and antiques showroom! There is also an abundance of footpaths and bridleways leading from the village itself to the beautiful surrounding countryside of the Howardian Hills. The Cottage is also very close to the lovely Georgian market town of Easingwold, which has a traditional, cobbled market square and a green with pretty trees and flowers. The marketplace is home to a weekly open air market on Fridays and also hosts a farmers' market on the third Wednesday of every month. With an array of independent local shops, cafes and eating establishments, so if you enjoy a beer and a pub meal or a good cuppa and a scone, you’re in the right place!
