A superb lodge for two, complete with hot tub, Mallard House Lodge is surrounded by open countryside and situated within the secluded area of Culgaith. There are many rural walks giving you the opportunity to see the Eden Valley from different viewpoints, and is within easy access to the Lake District.

Culgaith village is situated in the Eden Valley at the foot of the eastern Pennines equidistant between Penrith and Appleby (7 miles) and within easy driving distance (15 miles) to Lake Ullswater. Penrith boasts a selection of high street shops, well-known supermarkets, along with a cinema and public transport facilities. Appleby is a quaint market town which lies in a loop of the river Eden. You can explore Appleby Castle and The Norman Centre, where you can learn more about the history of the town. If you are looking for somewhere to eat, the Black Swan Inn in Culgaith is a 10-15 minute walk, providing excellent food and a great choice of draught beers and lagers. Just a short drive away, The Bridge in Kirkby Thore, a husband and wife team provide an excellent dining experience from classic bistro dishes such as steak frites, to a simple sandwich served in artisan bread. Visit The Shepherds Inn for a large selection of gins from Solway Spirits as well as real ales from Tirril and many others, also serving freshly prepared home made dishes such as the famous 'wathby whale' a slightly different take to the traditional fish and chips!
