The Wildlife Friendly Village of Redgrave is thriving and boasts many local amenities – community owned village shop and dog friendly pub The Cross Keys serving food, and Starwing Brewery with taproom and garden. Organised by the Green Redgrave Group, volunteers have planted thousands of trees in the area, and hundreds of bulbs on the village knoll. The group regularly hosts wildlife related talks and workshops at the Cross Keys pub - these are advertised on notices around the village. With no fewer than six nature reserves within a five-mile radius of the cottage, there is unrivalled opportunity to observe wild ponies, deer, birds and other wildlife in natural settings. The largest valley fen in England, the internationally renowned Redgrave and Lopham National Nature Reserve (warning: do not google this if you are an arachnophobe) and lots of other countryside walks are on your doorstep. Venture slightly further to Knettishall Heath SSSI & nature reserve (every dogs’ favourite) and Thetford Forest which are both a very short drive away. The start of both Boudica’s and Peddars Way are nearby. For enjoying the countryside, walking and cycling, this cottage really is the ideal base. Riddlesworth Dog Park is a secure, 3 acre exercise field in Riddlesworth (between Diss and Thetford), which is available to hire and has an easy online booking system.
