Company information

We (Alex, Lorraine and our sports mad son Morgan) pride ourselves on creating (or trying to create) the perfect bed and breakfast accommodation and an exceptionally high standard of comfort and cleanliness. We have been here over 15 years and in that time have won many prestigious awards and have as much enthusiasm for meeting new guests now as we had in our very first year. Prior to moving to Wales we spent four years running luxury ski chalets in the French Alps and before that Lorraine worked in several highly regarded restaurants around Oxford and Alex was a lecturer in Leisure and Tourism at Oxford College.

Property information

Dolffanog Fawr is an 18th century farmhouse that has recently been converted into one of the finest small accommodation establishments in Snowdonia. It is located in the stunning Tal-y-llyn valley with views across sheep pasture to Tal-y-llyn lake and with Cadair Idris virtually rising from the back garden you couldn't wish for a more spectacular setting. Our 4 ensuite rooms, named after local rivers, are simple yet stylish, neutrally decorated with woollen carpets, local artwork and Melin Tregwynt throws. Large beds with top quality pocket sprung mattresses, crisp Egyptian cotton bedding together with clean welsh mountain air should make for a sound nights' sleep. We offer a comprehensive breakfast menu guaranteed to set up you up for the day ahead. New for this year we have an extensive honesty bar offering wines, beers, ciders, spirits and soft drinks with an emphasis on local welsh produce. Evening meals occasionally available.

Neighbourhood information

This southern part of Snowdonia is famed for its mountains, scenery and long sandy beaches. Dolffanog Fawr is located at the foot of Cadair Idris mountain and 10 miles from the coastal towns of Aberdyfi and Tywyn. The market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau are also a 20 minute drive away. There are castles, historic houses, gardens, museums and craft shops. You can watch ospreys and other wildlife including red kites, otters and dolphins or play golf and go white water rafting. There's also pony trekking, zip wires and narrow gauge steam railways not forgetting lovely forest, mountain and coastal walks and some of the best mountain biking in the UK. The mountains of northern Snowdonia, Betws-y-Coed and the university town of Aberystwyth are also well within range for day trips.
